Georgia students have first interracial prom in the year 2013!

That's pretty disgusting that we still have segregation in this day and age. There's no excuse for it. But, it's good that stufents were willing to flip the birdie to racism. Shame on the school and parents for not allowing it in the school.

It is shocking. Morgan Freeman narrated a documentary film about a town in Mississippi that had its first integrated prom just a few years ago, maybe 2008-09???? He paid for the prom and examined attitudes and reasons why one had not happened before.

The whole business of racial discrimination in this country and in the larger world around us
comes from a process over 500 years old so I am never surprised at seeing scars and remnants of it anywhere on any given day at any time during my life. Besides even when
all the black kids are allowed to dance in the same room with all the white kids there will
still be intra-racial predjudice and friction based on illusions of status and class...

Of course splanky is right. Humans use of skin color is only one of the ways that we try to declare dominance over others. If we were all the same shade of purple, the fat ones would hate the skinny ones, left-handed would oppose right-handed, tall would despise short, and Crips and Bloods would still be killing people who otherwise look exactly like themselves. It's just who we are as humans; we don't really need a reason to hate because it's so easy to do with no reason at all. Anyway, God bless those kids for taking a stand. It's ridiculous that you can be teammates on a football field and best friends in the hallways, but not allowed to dance with each other at the prom.
