    What's on those Hullabaloo DVDs?

The latest 60s Flashback aired in Memphis on WKNO. It's pledge time so we were treated to some performances from Hullabaloo. It was a fun look back though I thought there were too many Top 40 acts and not enough soul. Lada Edmond Jr. still looks well. and says she's only in her 60s. But what I want to know is exactly what's on the Hullabaloo DVDs. I saw a lot of footage aired during the pledge breaks that are from other episodes of the show and they kind of skirted around saying exactly what was on the DVDs. That's important for me to know before I pledge.

I was about to ask the same question. Since I already have the three sets that were released on dvd a while back, it would be nice to know the track listing for the pledge version.

I caught the show on Saturday and the only clip that really caught my eye was Dionne Warwick performing REACH OUT FOR ME, as I had never seen it in full. And during the breaks there was also a brief clip of her performing PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON with Lesley Gore and Trini Lopez.

I purchased some of the previously available Hullabaloo DVD volumes and was aware of The Supremes "Nothing But Heartaches" and The Marvelettes "Don"t Mess With Bill," appearances, but I was surprised to see brief teaser clips during the hard sell pledge segments that showed The Supremes performing "Come See About Me," and if memory serves me right, "Where Did Our Love Go," and "Stop! In The Name Of Love." The implication was that if you donated at the top level, your "free" DVD's would include these "previously" unseen performances on tape.

It has been my experience, that these "PBS Packages only" come up for sale on Amazon within a few months. Plus, with the full listing of what you are purchasing, full disclosure of the performances included is easy to determine. So hopefully there is a newly expanded Hullabaloo series, rather than "The Same Old Song" being peddled.

The first time I ever saw The Supremes was on Hullabaloo in January 1965. They sang a medley of their 3 #1 Hits. I assume this is the same Hits Medley that's on Disc 3B in this collection.

On that show Shirley Ellis sang The Name Game. The Supremes joined her for a verse singing the song using their group name, "Supremes Supremes Bo Bupremes...", as I recall. Does DVD #2 contain this appearance of The Supremes joining Shirley, or is it a different appearance?

I have never seen these performances since that night.

I would get it for the Supremes performance of "Come See About Me" because, in my opinion, it's their best version and performance of the song they did on TV and the copy I have of it is very old and grainy . But when I saw that they dubbed the original recording over the live track during the program I changed my mind. Funny though when they did the hits medley during the same show it seems that PBS decided to keep the live performance intact instead of dubbing it over with the original studio recordings. So many good groups I see on there otherwise...the Vogues and the Young Rascals are favorites of mine.

I'd rather wait until these DVDs show up on AMAZON.COM at reduced prices.
