Thumbs up Tina Britt/THE REAL THING [[1965)

This seemed like the perfect time to post this great tune since there's been a recent Jo Armstead thread.

Written by Ashford & Simpson & Armstead, many of you are, no doubt, familiar with it. But for those who aren't or with Tina Britt's terrific recording of it, here it is. It always brings HDH's [[LOVE IS LIKE A) HEAT WAVE to mind for me--but it's also very special all on its own.

CLIP #1: The recording as used in THE IN CROWD [[1988), directed by Mark Rosenthal. A movie about a Philadelphia boy on a local dance show in the mid-1960s:

CLIP #2: The Tina Britt recording, alone:

I saw the movie The In Crowd, which is where I first heard this song. I like it a lot.

This version is not so well known even though it's by a more famous group

If I remember rightly, the flip of Tina Britt's version, "A Teardrop Fell Every Step of the Way", was also worth a spin.

Both Betty Everett's fine version, and that by The Chiffons, also charted. Just like "It's In His Kiss", there were several versions from which to choose.

I don't like Betty Everett's version of The Real Thing. The arrangement is sort of "stiff" next to Tina Britt's livelier version, in my opinion. I guess it's the Motown feel that Tina's record has.

    Betty Everett's version.

I gotta check and see if I have the Chiffons though I thought their's was a little stiff sounding too.
The song was also re-written for Chuck Jackson and Maxine Brown as Baby Take Me. I think it's bloody awful.

If I'm not mistaken, Chuck and Maxine also recorded a version of THE REAL THING, using the same backing track as BABY TAKE ME.
