    The Tempos: Let's Stick Together

I see Johnnie Mae Matthews had a hand in writing this one. And the intro sounds familiar doesn't it?

Thanks for the link - another for my want list. Sounds very much like the beginning of Your Old Stand By by Mary Wells.

Oldies, I'm told it got some airplay on WCHB and WJLB back in the day. My dad used to have the actual record, bought it. but can't remember what year he got it. He has it on a cassette of old Detroit oldies, which is how I heard it. It never gets included on a northern soul compilation. It would seem that they would like this record.

Oldies, do you recall a bootleg of Detroit oldies being sold in the Detroit area? I wish some company would do a disc of northern soul/Detroit sounds. They've done a few, but nothing that has the really good stuff like Let's Stick Together.

Kamasu - That is so good! Hadn't heard it before. And Oldiesmusicfan, I totally agree with your Mary Wells reference. A very astute observation.

Kamasu - I wouldn't have heard it in the Detroit area back in the day because I lived in southeast Pennsylvania until 1977. When I moved here I went crazy collecting Detroit music. There are a lot of comps of obscure Detroit soul music that I've bought over the years. Do you have a want list you could PM to me? Here are a few CDs I have and maybe you could find their track listing on Amazon to see if anything interests you [[or your dad!)

    Michigan Artists Volumes 1 & 2
    Girls Of Golden World
    Ric Tic Relics Volumes 1 & 2
    Dave Hamilton's Detroit Soul
    Dave Hamilton's Detroit Dancers Volumes 1 & 3
    Motortown Group Sounds Volumes 1,2 & 3
    Detroit Dynamite
    Michigan Memories
Detroit Soul From The Vaults Volume 2
Detroit [[Rare Tracks From) Volumes 1 through 9

Methuselah - Then later in the song it sounds like a different one! What is it???? It's bugging me. Where the background is singing "hey hey hey hoo" - there another song says that exact thing followed by "yes he did" and for the life of me I cannot figure it out, seems it's a female artist or group. I'll kick myself when I find out what it is. Like from 1963 or so. Same mid-tempo beat.

Oldies - Could it be Ben E. King's STAND BY ME? I kept hearing some faint resemblance to that tune.

Bump for Kamasu. Did you check out any of those CDs I listed above for some goodies?

Methuselah - GOT IT! It came to me at 4:30 in the morning! It's Gladys Knight & The Pips Letter Full Of Tears, the original 1961 version, not the re-recorded Motown version. Check this link on Youtube and go to 2:30 - There's my "Hey hey hey hoo, yes he did." I've been listening to this song for just over 50 years! I knew it would come to me sooner or later.

I pulled out 4 CDS of Ben E. King and couldn't find anything that reminded me of this one that Kamasu posted. It sounds like a song made up of parts of other popular songs! Great one though!
