Info on JUNIOR LEWIS??? aka CL BLAST
been looking everywhere for info on Junior Lewis, who recorded for Fury, Atco, Columbia and more labels on the 50's and 60's. I know he released some stuff on stax and other labels on the 70's under the name of CL Blast.
I'm also looking for these two songs by him "Too bad" and "The only girl"... does anyone knows if they appear from somewhere appart than on the original 45's??? they are way too expensive for me!
thanks a lot!!
Not connected to your actual quest ....
... but C L Blast spent time in South Africa in the 70's (doing live shows).
He got on so well with the (black) locals that he recorded down there. I have 2 Sth African LP's that feature those tracks.
Thanks for the replies.
About that albums on south africa that you mention.... I understand one of them includes the songs I'm looking for??? Can you please tell me the name or label of the album??? Maybe it's not as expensive as the 45's I?m looking for.
I only have 2 South African pressed LP's (I have quite a few 45's though) but at present I can only find one of them.
... and it's the wrong one .........
the LP you're after details of is all C. L. Blast tracks and it is titled 'Made In Africa' (WEA International). It was released in 1981 and the track listing is as follows ......
......... side 1
I Can’t Stand A Liar
Call Me At The Same Number
I Found Love
..... side 2
The Lord Will Make A Way
It’s You That I Love
Can’t Leave It Alone
Details of the album can be found on the net (at discogs & other sites).
The LP I can find is titled 'Funky Soul Vol.1' and features various artists (most being Sth African). That is actually on the Atlantic label but features 2 tracks off the WEA C L Blast LP -- "I Found Love" & "Standing Together".
Hope this helps.
In the the great magazine In The Basement (RIP), issue 59, there was an in-depth article on C.L. Blast, including a discography.
"Too Bad" is the other side of "Tears On My Face (Columbia 42236) (1961)
"The Only Girl" is the other side of "Forty Days And Forty Nights" (Columbia 42361) (1962)
I don't think they are on other records, compilation, etc.. but I may be wrong.
