Eddie Floyd vs. Joe Stubbs
I'm a little confused. According to the compilation CD SOUL BROTHERS: JAMES BROWN/EDDIE FLOYD (RPMSH 250) and several sources on the Internet, "Please Don't Leave Me Dear" and "I'll Never Find Another Girl Like You" are sung by Eddie Floyd backed by The Falcons. But to me, it doesn't sound like Eddie Floyd at all. This's gotta be Joe Stubbs!

Joe Stubbs' "Just For Your Love": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_Jhtl47eXQ
Eddie Floyd's "Lonely": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKaLHsxc_-4
Am I deaf or am I right?

I agree with you and I need to buy those Falcons tracks. I only have "The Teacher"
-
Is there a CD compilation of the Falcons with those tracks. I can't find one.
-

You are correct. That is Joe Stubbs. The tone of his voice is unique (as is everyone's) and unmistakable.

Thanks guys. Here's the compilation that I mentioned in my first post: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Remembering-...1870554&sr=8-2
It includes both "I'll Never Find Another Girl Like You" and "Please Don't Leave Me Dear", but mislabeled as Eddie Floyd songs. I don't think there's any official legit release on The Falcons containing the songs.

Of course, the Falcons had some success, and I hear their sound in the early-60s Motown guy groups like the Downbeats and Richard Street's Majestics, in the days before Motown found their OWN sound.
I always wonder how Joe Stubbs felt as his career declined, while brother Levi's soared.
