The crowd ROARED,stamped feet,would not leave for 2 mins until they came back out, and the divine one finally re-emerged. She asked for a chair, then asked us all to please sit. You could hear a pin drop....... she made a poignant dedication to all those we have lost this year, Whitney, Etta, Nick Ashford, etc..... and while sitting, sang the most beautiful heart aching version of "Missing You"....... it brought tears.....even now I'm all misty re-living it......... how blessed we are to be able to experience such moments of incredible,pure love..........

Ross continued to 'wow' audiences and music gurus around the globe. At 67 years old, Diana Ross has proved her staying power in music through the decades.

On Friday night at the Mahaffey Theater, Diana Ross took the stage in a sparkly gold and white gown, complete with a sheer tulle overcoat. She shed the overcoat after an introductory performance of the hit "I'm Coming Out."

With five costume changes, Ross kept the energy pumping for the whole hour-long show. Her wardrobe consisted of strikingly blinged-out gowns, each more stunning than the one before.

Fans grooved to her many hits, from "Upside Down" to her finale of "I Will Survive." Sitting was rare during the show- most of the crowd were on their feet for the majority of Ross' diva-licious performance.

Ross made it apparent that some people were just born to perform.

A sold out show with 5,000 people? How odd, according to Diane's #1 stalker, nobody but a few fans at Soulful Detroit is interested in Diane Ross?

No way could it be a sell out. No one is interested in Miss Ross other than a few people here. In fact I just found a picture of the turnout for Ross' show the other night.

I was at The Mahaffey and what a ripoff it was. It cost 200.00 each with parking and a drink for an hour????????? We were out the parking lot at 9:15! She sounded awesome and looked it too but that was wayyyyyyy too much money for wayyyyyyy to little show. The band was so sparse that the stage looked like disease had wiped out most of the band. They are very good and she must pay them well as I recognize them from 2 years ago when she had a real show. The ad for the show said live string and horn sections but they weren't on stage with her if they were there. We were in the second row and she smiled at me a few times. She really was good but after an hour she said goodnight and left. We stood there clapping asking for more but the lights came up and we were told it was over. serious rip off. That is a 75.00 show, not twice that. 70.00 for superstar Queen of Motown, 5.00 for each band member. 0.00 for whoever turns the tape on to play the other band instruments.

After two years of this current tour she is still getting rave reviews and sold out crowds. Brava LaRoss. When I saw the show in 2010, her encore was a tribute to Michael with a bit of Missing You and then going into You Are Not Alone. It was stunning. And here she is two years later dedicating her encore to others that have gone before her. That has to be bittersweet for her. And should give us pause.....

As great as Diana looks and sounds, I'm a little disappointed to see that her show has reverted back to the old format again. I don't know why. When she was in Florida last year, this also happened...but then when I saw her in Rochester in September, she went back to using the horns, the video screen and opening with "The Boss". However, a lot of songs she had performed in Toronto in 2010 (when I had previously seen her) were omitted, such as "You Keep Me Hangin' On", "It's Hard For Me To Say", and "You Are Not Alone/I Love You". As much as I love Diana and I appreciate the fact that she's even still touring and performing, I wish she would add one or two different songs into the set once in a while for the fans who continue to come out to each and every tour. When it's the same old set list time after time, it makes it more dull for the more die hard fans. So many of us loved that 2010 tour with the real horns and strings, new songs, new set and new gowns.

Performances by Diana Ross and Iron Maiden headline a batch of concert announcements for Indianapolis.

Ross, who sang more than 12 No. 1 hits as a member of the Supremes, will perform April 24 at the Murat Theatre in Old National Centre. Tickets for the 8 p.m. show, $58 to $148, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.

Iron Maiden, the British hard rock band that’s sold more than 80 million albums worldwide, will perform July 19 at Klipsch Music Center. Alice Cooper will appear as supporting act at the venue formerly known as Verizon Wireless Music Center. Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show, $29.50 to $85, go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday

.DiscussPrintAAA.FORT PIERCE — Diana Ross walked on stage at the Sunrise Theatre on Tuesday night wearing her signature hair style, long red nails, red lipstick and a sparkling white and gold gown covering her silver platform shoes. That was just for openers.

The 68-year-old diva started her performance singing her hit "I'm Coming Out" and traveled through her career with Supreme tunes "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "Where Did Our Love Go" while she changed into one sparkling gown after another — red, blue and pink.

Ross didn't share stories with the audience or didn't spend time explaining her music. With a constant smile, she sang to mostly shy audience members who moved their heads and tapped their feet while she pointed and invited them to clap their hands or sing along.

That changed when she swung her hips back and forth to "Baby Love" or when she built up a momentum with "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." Some whistled and others got up to dance.

Many in the crowd came to listen to Ross' old hits and reminisced about their youth. Some confessed old crushes on her.

"Back in the day, she was the bomb," said Lee Rhyant, who was in town from Atlanta visiting family.

Some diehard fans traveled from other parts of the country and the world to see Ross. That was the case of her German fan Andreas Hirsch, who was recently featured in an article by Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers and who travels the world to see her. He came accompanied by Judy Parham from Baltimore, a retired hair stylist who has been following the diva across the country since 1965.

"When I first saw Diana Ross I wanted to be just like her. I was a little too heavy," Parham said, laughing.

Highwaymen artist James Gibson of Fort Pierce was also present. He met Ross in 1961, when he attended Tennessee State University in Nashville. He said she visited the school campus to see a common friend who used to sing with her. Whenever Ross was visiting, Gibson got in touch with their friend and they went out to eat at a restaurant twice.

He cannot remember what he asked her or what she said. All he can remember were her eyes.

"Once you look in her eyes, she just grabs you," Gibson said.

Ross wore her signature long eyelashes that helped her become a fashion icon. Her gowns wowed women who spoke after her show, which ended with a cover of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."

"You know this one," Ross said.

Some fans who have seen Ross perform in Las Vegas and big cities were pleasantly surprised that she came to the 1,200-seat Sunrise Theatre.

"When I read she was coming, I though we were driving to Miami," Deidre Gainey of Stuart said. "To have her here is a pleasure."

If all you wanted from your Diana Ross experience was a brisk parade of hits sung well and performed by a tight band, then you likely exited the Fox Theatre Thursday night feeling fulfilled and singing “Baby Love.”

But if you were looking for a little warmth, a little spontaneity, a little chatter, a little something to suggest that Ross wasn’t merely going through the motions of songs she’s sung a gazillion times, well, this wasn’t that show.

The indefatigable Ross, who turns 68 later this month, has been on some form of a greatest hits tour since May 2010 – in fact, her last Atlanta appearance came at Chastain in June 2010.

At this return engagement, the thousands of fans in the nearly sold-out Fox greeted the pop goddess with worshipful applause and ovations as she took the stage in a puff of white taffeta over a gold and white sequined dress for one of her many anthems, “I’m Coming Out.”

It was the first of about five outfits modeled during the show, with most of her ensembles remaining in the glittery sequined family (blue, red, gold) and one purple strapless ball gown. Ross has also perfected the art of making an entrance – arms outstretched, shoulders shimmying – as she did after every costume change.

Ross’ trademark mound of ebony waves was in full effect, too, as she frequently dabbed at it gingerly (don’t hurt the hair!) while flashing a huge smile.

But everything was almost too perfect, from the dance moves of the stop-on-a-dime five piece band and three backup singers to the tasteful lighting beamed on a set of white curtains decorating the stage. An unscripted humanizing moment or an acknowledgement of the audience – which finally came during the encore – would have elevated the concert from a slick, professional delivery of hits to a musical embrace to remember.

That isn’t to say Ross, who recently earned a Lifetime Achievement Grammy, was devoid of personality. She grinned and waved her hands to the beat of “Where Did Our Love Go” and “Baby Love” – songs that mandated that the crowd remain standing – and brought the sunshine out of the Motown classic “You Can’t Hurry Love.” A couple of guys in the audience also had a brief brush with diva-dom as they hopped on stage for a few quick dance moves during a playful “Upside Down.”

Though she hit a few sharp notes early in the show, Ross settled into the silken groove of “Touch Me in the Morning” and turned on the funk for “Love Child,” recast with an exuberant Latin-tinged coda.

Her strongest vocal moment came after a fun appearance of “Ease on Down the Road” when she returned from another dress swap for the lovely “Don’t Explain,” which nearly silenced the fidgety crowd.

After whirling through Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” – although what strong female singer hasn’t appropriated that one? – Ross returned for an encore and finally spoke at length. She had family in the audience, she noted, including daughter Tracee, who stars in the Atlanta-filmed BET series “Reed Between the Lines.”

As she and the band delved into the fitting set closer – “Reach Out and Touch (Somebody’s Hand)” – Ross made a brief mention of the loss of songwriter Nick Ashford (who also co-wrote “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”) before thanking the audience for their energy.

So no, this wasn’t a show focused on interaction, but trotting out the hits – and they are numerous and still glorious – for appreciative crowds wanting a victory lap from one of music’s most memorable female icons.

There are a few absolutes in life — like water is wet, toast burns and some stars never fade. It’s the latter part of that statement that best applies to the remarkable and incomparably accomplished Diana Ross. The fluidity of her success stands in strange contradiction to the careers of so many other greats whose success ebbed and flowed with each new wave of rumors, controversy and scandal. Ross’s distinction is her dignity. She has been decidedly free of these make-or-break distractions and continues to ‘bring it’ with every glamour-filled performance.

Fans at the Fox Theatre spent most of Thursday night on their feet, dancing singing and applauding the litany of hits Ross performed from career high points. The Supreme’s era “You Can’t Hurry Love” to Mahogany’s “Touch Me in the Morning,” “Don’t Explain” from Lady Sings the Blues to her signature “Reach Out and Touch,” coupled with Ross’ sensational costume changes, made for an evening of reminiscing and remembering memorable moments from the past while enjoying the one we were in. –roz edward

Editor's Note: Scene/Cream intern Cayla Mackey attended Diana Ross' March 2 show at The Ryman. She submitted the following review, in which Ross' many costume changes seem to represent the many changes in her long, storied career.

Diana Ross strode onstage to the song “I’m Coming Out.” This is it. This is the song that branded her album Diana. It’s her declaration of freedom from Motown’s disempowering business dealings — dealings that left her without ownership of her work. For the debutante, now is her time just as it was when this song first came out. She dresses the part.

Ross’ performance was a tour of her career, with each period of her life accompanied by a different gown. All five of Ross’ marvelous dresses dripped glitter and sequins. Her costuming alone was well worth the pricey ticket. But, as Edd Hurt says, “Don’t let the glamorous sheen of Diana Ross’ career prevent you from looking a bit deeper.”

For Ross, glamour and aesthetics are equally as important as her music. She defines and is defined by glamour. In a larger sense, she’s a poor girl from the ghetto who has risen to affluence and renown. Like Aretha Franklin, who performed at The Ryman last year, she embodies black female empowerment.

Ross began in a floor-length, slouchy red gown as the lead singer of the Motown trio The Supremes, performing “Stop in the Name of Love.” The eight-piece backup band sewed numbers seamlessly together as the sound shifted from Latin funk to smooth jazz to disco. From her entrance onto the stage, there was not a moment in the 90-minute set during which the entire audience was seated. She had them, and she had them on their feet.





After the first collection of opening songs, Ross disappeared backstage and re-emerged in another jaw-dropping gown. This soft gold number appeared to be the same she wore at the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize Concert (above). She sang “Take Me Higher” from her 1995 album, and “Ease on Down the Road.” The latter was re-released in 1978, originally a track from the Broadway musical The Wiz, which was produced by Quincy Jones and later acquired by Motown. The song was recorded as a duet between Ross and Michael Jackson.

The next costume change found Ross in a breathtaking white feathered opera coat that flowed over a skin-tight bedazzled black gown. The lights went down, and the color-morphic, lush velvet backdrop shined through starry skies. Now she is Billie Holiday, the character she played in the 1972 film Lady Sings the Blues. For this role, she was nominated for an Oscar.

The audience melted in her hands as she teased them by flashing the coat open. She shrugged off the coat, dragged it across the floor, and tossed it aside as she moved into “Why Do Fools Fall Iin Love?” Ross covered this song in 1981, when it charted as No. 7 on Billboard's Pop Singles chart.





Ross glided back onstage, donning a high-collared orange creamsicle dress after a nearly unnoticed absence. She crooned the theme written for the 1975 Motown film Mahogany, “Do You Know Where You're Going To.”

The backup singers belted the hook for “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” from her 1970 debut Diana Ross. Ross emerged in disco glamour, draped in a bold gold cloth that shined rainbows under the floodlights. The crowd jumped to their feet. “You know this song?” she taunts as she launches into “I Will Survive.”

Ross signaled the end by blowing kisses and Thank-Yous to the audience, then disappeared stage-left. The applause crescendo'd, and Ross returned for a second go at part of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” The curtain closed, the din subsided, and reality returned.

As an Academy Award-nominated actress and the recipient of a 2012 Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award, Diana Ross straddles the realm between film and music. She knows, at the very least, how to put on a good show.

BILOXI, Mississippi -- Beau Rivage Resort & Casino has fattened up its spring and summer lineup with newly announced shows by Diana Ross (April 21), The O’Jays (May 11), Alice Cooper (June 8) and blues legend B.B. King (Aug. 24).

For the hardcore fans, I'd like to see the show changed up some if I were to see it again. But heck, she can take it to Europe and do it there, to probably even larger sell out crowds.

Diana Ross to sing for good cause at Nokia Theater in LA next week – and I’ll be there!!!

If you haven’t seen Diana Ross in concert then you don’t know what you are missing.

On Thursday, March 22, Miss Ross returns to the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

She is headlining A Night of Divas which benefits the Herbalife Family Foundation.

The foundation helps provide good nutrition to at-risk and low income children around the world.

All proceeds will go to this worthy cause.

I first saw Miss Ross at the Pacific Ampitheatre in 1989 during the Working Overtime tour then again two years later at the Universal Ampitheatre during The Force Behind the Power Tour.

It was then a five year break before returning to the Universal Ampitheatre for the Take Me Higher Tour.

Had tickets in the summer of 2000 for the Anaheim stop of the Return to Love tour with the Supremes which was canceled before it got to our stop. I was devastated!

It would be eight more years before I’d see Miss Ross live again and it was a spectacular concert at Hollywood Bowl in support of her first album in forever, I Love You.

Then in 2010, I got tickets to see the superstar at the Nokia for a wonderful concert of her many hits from Baby Love to Endless Love, from Where Did Our Love Go? to Why Do Fools Fall in Love? and from Reach Out and Touch to Touch Me in the Morning.

And let’s not forget Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, Upside Down, Love Hangover, Missing You, I’m Coming Out, Reflections, Stop! In the Name of Love, Where Did Our Love Go, Love Child and Do You Know Where You’re Going To?

Can’t wait to see what she has in store for us this time!

I have heard that because she is aging poorly and her voice has deteriorated to the point where she has to lip-synch a portion of her show as the reasons for not allowing the jumbotron screens to carry her image. She does not want the audience to be aware of these lastest shortcomings. Just sit back and enjoy the show......the parts that you can see from where you're sitting, hehehehehehehe!

We had pretty damned good seats for last night’s Diana Ross concert at the Nokia Theatre but I clearly don’t have a damned good camera.

I need to upgrade soon!

Well, who had time for pictures anyway – I was too busy dancing!

The concert was a private event for the Herbalife Foundation so it was not your usual Diana Ross crowd. My friends and I talked after the show about not only the difference in the crowd (many people loved it, others looked bewildered) but also in the performance of Miss Ross.

Let me say this: Her voice is as good as it ever was, she is a total professional and it was a wonderful show.

But it was a corporate gig so there was something a little rote about it even if there was FIVE costume changes! I’ve been to five previous Diana Ross concerts and I know the difference between when she is playing for the fans who worship her and for an audience for whom this is part of a larger convention.

She kicked off the show with I’m Coming Out then launched into a series of Supremes hits including Baby Love, Stop! In the Name of Love, Love Child, Where Did Our Love Go? You Can’t Hurry Love and My World is Empty Without You.

The bulk of the show were her many, many solo hits including Love Hangover, Touch Me in the Morning, Upside Down, Do You Know Where You’re Going To?, I Will Survive, Why Do Fools Fall In Love?, It’s My House, The Boss, Ease on Down the Road, and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.

Miss Ross did two numbers from Lady Sings the Blues but did not do my favorite, Good Morning Heartache. Also missing from the show were her hits Missing You, Endless Love, It’s My Turn and Chain Reaction.

There was virtually no chatter and no encore but you know what? I had a BLAST!

The next time Miss Ross tours, I will be there!

From a Brits point of view, it really looks like Diana is determined to turn her jaded reputation around in the U.S by playing to every single American alive today!! She's had far more bad press over the last 25 years than she deserved, and her music has gone largly ignored. It truly 'warms my cockles' to see all the great reviews she is getting - and at last the recognition as being the superstar that she is. Trust Diana to not just fade away.
I just wish she'd take time out to record something new!!

She has a lot of choices.....................totally up to her; but it's a bit much for a 68 year old to do all these things when she could just sit back and relax. Read SD for a bit of amusement! Read Mary's blog always thanking her for something. Call up Berry. Hang with the kids and grandkid and pick up another award.
