What a simply fantastic idea for a show John. And with all the many great songs in the American Songbook and the many great soul artists who have put their spin on these classics, it should be quite a show. From traditional interpetations like Marvin Gaye's "Unforgettable" to such unique spins as Billy Stewart's "Summertime" soul artists and the great American Songbook have always gone well together. Must have been hard deciding who made the final cut, you have so much quality material to choose from. A simply superb idea for a show! You remember The Superbs, that great female quartet (although we did later learn most of The Superbs backgrounds were done by the in house background singers, The Odontos). Very much looking forward to the show my friend.

    Joesph....my friend....Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....Ondontos! I love it!
    see ya later!

PS...some of what will be heard tonight is the "soulful take" on a classic, but much will be "classic takes" by soulful artists...or have I said too much. I guess the question as to whether Diana Ross has soul will be answered tonight.....

Great, Jim....erch....Peggy? Did you check the theme? When I was thinking about playing her "Let's Do It"...I couldn't find a version that wasn't banned....

Sorry John. I was thinking of Peggy Lee doing Richard Rogers' "Lover" (Richard Rogers thought she ruined it). It's not soulful though.

I have Peggy Lee singing "It Ain't Necessarily So." I think it was during her Decca years in the mid-50s.
