Jean Carne makes us "Give It Up" on new single

    From SoulTracks.com-

Legendary singer Jean Carne fully embraces her jazzy side on “Give It Up,” her new single on the Society Hill Record Label. Carne always brought an element of jazz to her vocals. She possesses a five-octave range, and her phrasing means that she could sing anything from standards to the material that Norman Connors or Gamble & Huff gave her back in the day. That’s when she made classics like “Valentine Love,” and “Don’t Let It Go To Your Head.”

The jazz stylings of this tune announce themselves early with a piano riff and saxophone solo dancing between the steady beat laid down by the acoustic bass and Carne’s scatting. Vocally, Carne’s phrasing and range remain impressive. She caresses the lyrics and takes a conversational tone as she encourages her potential love interest to ditch the hesitation and embrace taking the relationship to the next level.

Jazz is a very democratic art form that involves an ensemble of incredibly talented musicians who know how to make their individual statements in a way that contributes to making a singular piece of art. That can be heard in the how movements that would sound discordant in lesser hands synchronize together on “Give It Up.”

the thing about this is , you could stick any other music genre in there to replace the word jazz and say the same thing ....country, classical, soul, disco , etc... etc .... oh, I don't know except maybe not yodeling. hee haw!

Putting that aside .... could spot that voice from a mile away .....sounds good!!

Hate to take the wind out of your sails, Motown Eddie, but it appears that Miss Carne's management has pulled the old bait-and-switch on the public again. This "new" single is the exact title track of an album she released 9 years ago. The only difference is the cover art:

Wow; Didn't know that Jean Carne had previously released this song. Her management pulled a fast one on her fans [and the Soul Tracks Site where I first heard about her "new song"]. Thanks for the info sansradio.

Thanks for the Jean Carne discography. I see now that "Give It Up" first came out in 2015 and isn't a new song at all.

No worries. I was hoping it was at least a re-re-recording. NOT.
