    Diana Tops Mariah twice

    https://blog.siriusxm.com/best-female-rb-singers/

    Diana Ross

Diana Ross’s legendary solo career began back in 1970 with the release of her eponymous debut album and two smash-hit singles: “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Reach Out and Touch [[Somebody’s Hand).” The range Ross shows in those two songs shows why she’s such a memorable performer! Ross has made an indelible mark on the music world with her contributions to the R&B genre, so much so that she is a two-time winner of the GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award.
    The Supremes

You really can’t talk about Diana without talking about the Supremes, right? One of the best-selling girl groups of all time, their history of hits is truly incredible. From “Baby Love” to “Stop! In the Name of Love” to “You Can’t Hurry Love,” their collective talent is evident. Just try to stop tapping your toes to “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” – it’s impossible!

Where’s the part where she tops Mariah twice?

My stab in the dark is that on this list of 15 of the best female R and B singers, it begins with Diana Ross and the next entry is the Supremes, so once and then twice they are listed above or she/they top Mariah twice.

However, I’m not really sure that is accurate

The fact that there’s no ranking in the blog makes the posting kinda misleading.

No Ree, no nothing. I do feel, however that Diana’s work with the supreme should be included with her solo career. Her voice was the focal point of every record she did with the Supremes.

i would tend to disagree. perhaps the later DRATS stuff when the group was really just name only. but 10 of the 12 #1s occurred under the name "The Supremes" and not DRATS and the work and history of the group stands on its own. given how much success each had, i think it's justified to acknowledge them as separate entities

I dread the day it gets revealed it was really Valerie Simpson doing those leads on those DRAT records all those years.

Meet the Queens: 15 of the Best Female R&B Singers of All Time

    I'd rewrite the headline as

Meet the Queens: 15 of the 100 Best Female R&B Singers of All Time

    or

Meet the Queens: 15 of our favorite Female R&B Singers of All Time

I mean, how can you talk about QUEENS, and then not even mention Aretha, lol.

Not sure why it's a big deal trying to "best" Mariah though. It's not like these were ranked 1- 15. There are definitely inclusions that surprised me, as well, obviously as exclusions.

    More like, it's all delusion.

Maybe some feel like it still a competition.

If you look at the headline at the link, it states:

15 of the Best Female R&B Singers of All Time

It doesn't state: The 15 best.

And the second sentence of the article states:

Today, we’re celebrating some of the best female R&B singers of all time

Once again, not "the best" but some of the best.

So this is not a competition-oriented list, just a guide to help promote streaming plays of these artists and to check out the Queens of R and B channel.

is the article just a thinly veiled excuse to promote Janelle Monae's new release at the very end?? [answer: yes]

    Janelle Monáe

With their latest album making serious waves, the world is well and truly Janelle Monáe’s oyster. After a few years spent flexing their acting chops, their return to music with The Age of Pleasure has reminded everyone of just how sublime, slinky, and innovative their R&B is. They’d do anything for their “Lipstick Lover,” and we’d do anything for Janelle Monáe!

I know zilch about her/ them or their singing abilities and maybe they are very deservedly mentioned here ....

    ok here's a listen:

Ah OK .... that's a singing talent , a natural, Diana Ross look out lol!!!

Janelle came out as non binary in recent years and uses both they/them and she/her pronouns.

You’re reaching and not grabbing the ledge. This blog is the author’s opinion of the 15 r&b singers he/or she thinks are the best. They’re not ranked and just because Diana was listed first doesn’t mean she topped Mariah. Both are great and I’m sure Mariah looks up to Diana, but don’t make a mountain out of a molehill.

Blackguy is the voice of reason here

It’s ok to value Diana over Mariah or others or vice versa but these are just lists and not all of them are ranked and they don’t mean much to other people

Mariah seems to look up to Diana and they seem to be friends

Maybe After you's sense of self worth and esteem is heavily dependent on Diana Ross ranking high if not on top of such lists? Even though no numbers or rankings were assigned to this list, she is listed first followed by the Supremes, so twice in the first two. So the list may have offered therapeutic benefit for after you.
