You'reAlll I Need To Get By

Which one do you prefer, and why?

  2. #2
My all time favourite by Marvin & Tammi.

Why? Never did two voices blended together so well. Never where the Andantes so sweet and never Motown had a better duet song.

My all time favourite by M&T too and quite possible one of the greatest duets ever recorded. The mono mix subtly combines the instruments and voices together with such gentleness and feeling.

My humble opinion as well. Marvin & Tammi says it all.

  7. #7
I kind of expected the poll to skew towards Marvin and Tami.

Marvin & Tammi . In regards to their version ,there could never be a "better than" of Marvin & Tammi's version and it would take two vocalist's with the equivalent level of talent and the most important thing ,the level of empathic electricity between the singers ,to even come as close to recording even a "as good as" version.

You'reAlll I Need To Get By , as recorded by Marvin and Tammi , is pure perfection . Because of Marvin and Tammi's blend , because of Nick and Val's writing ,arrangement and production , because of Jamerson's performance ,(you have to really hear the stereo version played in surround 5.1 to really hear what went on in that track between the drums and the bass. They are the foundation of the tune.), under Val's supervision ,( Jamerson has said ,"That lady don't play. You play it like she wrote it"). It is just the right combination of genius, coming together at just the right time. Can't say no more than that.

Didnt Martha Reeves & G.C.Cameron do a version too. On Motorcity I think?

'Marvin and Tammi'...Just listen to the two versions...it tells it all.

Mary J and Method Man...in a sense of vocalics, Im surprised that was even written.

I voted for Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, they just clicked on everything that they did, but you left off Fred and Esther's version....LOL

Their version is quite good, a rather disturbing take on it, but they did something different with it.
