    Susaye,

You've made my day by honoring us with your presence.

Honoring us with your presents would be even better

presents and honors and samurai, oh my.

The honor is all mine. As for the present, it beats living in the past. ha!

And in answer to "the seven samurai" [[loved it! loved it!) question: "侍と忍者は知る由もない."

    Susaye,
The "TEST!!! Had this been an actual post" thread is just as silly as this one, and the"Just a chime" thread is getting that way. Welcome!

    Moe,
Was the Vapors' "Turning Japanese" a US hit?

    Tamla,
Do you remember in "Peanuts" when Peppermint Patty was persuaded to go to a School for the Gifted because she thought she would receive gifts there? After that she joined a school recommended by Snoopy, and it wasn't until the teacher gave her a bone that she realized she'd been enrolled in a Dog Obedience Class.

    Nice story about Peppermint Patty!

I had a great uncle who used really old, quaint English expressions and phrases. He told me how, when he was very young, he fell in love at first sight with Vera, the lady who was to become my great aunt, describing her as 'very fetching'.

When I asked another family member about that description, she sniffed, and said "Well, I always felt Vera resembled a retriever..."

What! You guys never heard of Google translate?! Got my language skills from Google.

What do you call a woman who knows where her husband is every night?

The reason I mentioned the Vapors is that in their hit "Turning Japanese", it opens with an Oriental riff [the same one that's in Marvin Gaye's "When I Had Your Love"], which turns out to be - would you believe - in fact Chinese.
