Yet another musical genius leaves us, and make no mistake Leon Ware was a musical genius. I was only playing his expansion records compilation "Leon Ware and friends" just the other day which contains gems by artists such as Chuck Jackson, Minnie Riperton, Syreeta, Vesta Williams, Donny Hathaway, Bobby Womack, Vesta Williams and Jerry Butler to name but a few.Timeless music. Rest in peace Leon, and thank you for the music.

The I Want You album was my first introduction to Leon. He and Marvin really had something going on that record. His own Musical Massage on Motown was in the same vein. But I love this later, very summery track

On her album While I'm Awake [[2010), Dutch singer Giovanca duets with Leon Ware. A wonderful, lesser known song, "Where Love Lives" that Leon Ware originally wrote for [[and with) El DeBarge, who never recorded it:

This is indeed an absolute classic soulwally. Brings back some lovely memories from the early 80's.

Marv: Thank you for posting this story. This is an excellent article and gives a lot more information than the other stories combined. Even T-Boy Ross was one of his artists.

Sad news about Leon. What great music he was involved in for many years. For me the highlight was Marvin's 'I Want You' album, but there was so much more of course.

Jaap, thanks for posting the link and introducing me to the song and performance. Superb.

I am ashamed to say that I knew very little of his work other than that he wrote a few songs for Marvin Gaye... I never knew he had a whole album for Motown [[which I have since listened to... it is brilliant) or much of a recording career at all. He gave the world so much great music and I look forward to properly discovering it!

Here was a very popular cut Leon did as a part of the legendary Quincy Jones epic album "Body Heat" from around '74:

He deserves the consideration of giant singer / songwriter, IMHO, if only have done this:

Tremendous loss. Love "Why I Came To California" and "Instant Love." His production work on Melissa Manchester's "Don't Cry Out Loud" is epic. This is one of my favorites.

However, this one is the pinnacle. A seminal, flawless track where composition, performance and production meld to perfection.

    RIP, Leon Ware

Leon co-wrote this. It is the epitome of the "Quiet Storm" radio format that's become popular across the country. It was "Quiet Storm". before we even knew what it meant! 1974 and "Body Heat":

Ware helped to produce singer Maxwell's debut album, Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite, released in 1996, and considered one of the landmark albums of the neo-soul genre.

I heard about his death two days after it was announced. I was wondering why the Marvin Gaye tag on Instagram was heavily populated by pictures of Leon. I thought he was gonna do a new album or something.

He was a genius. His influence on modern soul and R&B should not be forgotten. RIP.
