Songs Added To The National Registry

From the press release:
Each year, the Librarian of Congress selects 25 songs that are "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" and at least 10 years old. This year's collection spans the years 1888 to 1997, bringing the total number of songs on the Registry's list to 475.

There are a couple of surprises in that list - Wilson Pickett's In The Midnight Hour, for one. Also The Wiz Broadway Cast recording [[which needs to be remastered in digital form as the first pressing is horrible!!!).

A very nice and diverse list. But since they included different versions of LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING, I'm surprised that they didn't include Kim Weston's as well. That is the one I remember most vividly. My local soul station used it to sign off every day at sunset.

I don't know the list, only the tracks posted by Thommg , but I think that many Philadelphia International "anthems" deserves to be included [[for their "universal and brotherly love" and social messages or / and for their contribution to the popular culture of XX Century in the US and worldwide. "Love Train"; "Wake Up Everybody"; "Let's Clean Up The Ghetto"; ...)

Totally agree Ozmo. That song is a standard, a classic, a masterpiece! I'd certainly deem it "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant"...!
