I read about this on Sunday and it was rather eerie. I had literally just finished watching the Dixie Cups perform CHAPEL OF LOVE on a Jeff Barry concert dvd, and then I started reading the obituaries in my local paper and saw a story about Joan Marie's passing .
May she RIP.
Rest in peace Joan Marie. Thank you for the great music.

Just found out this afternoon. Another sad loss. I'll always love The Dixie Cups' hits; "Chapel Of Love", "People Say" & "Iko Iko". RIP Joan Marie Johnson.
Rest In Peace Joan Marie Johnson. Thank you for the music and the memories. "People Say" remains one of my all time favorite songs and I play it frequently still. "Iko Iko" is also a great track. Both have alternate versions on their CD "The Complete Red Bird Recordings". Even if they had only hit with "Chapel of Love" their place in popular music history would have been assured.
Such sad news! Loved this group. Iko Iko was cool as was You Should Have Seen the Way He Looked at Me.
