This site has some interesting stuff. I came across a CD by a group called The Minits that recorded on the Hi label in the 70s. I was intrigued because the description of the CD says "Memphis girl group featuring Ann Peebles and Denise LaSalle."

Since I worship both those ladies, I was immediately drawn to read and learn more, since I had never heard of either one ever being in a group, and certainly not the SAME group! First of all, when you look at the photo on the cover, the girl on the left does very much look like a young Ann, but neither of the others resemble Denise that I could tell.

So I next checked on Amazon, which also sells the CD. According to their bio, the members were three other girls, two of whom were sisters, with no mention of Ann or Denise. So does anyone know if A and D really had anything to do with this group, or was that Crystal Ball website looking into the wrong ball?

The good news is that the girls sound great [[Amazon has clips) and they very much resemble the early Honey Cone sound, which is what I think they were going for. So I may buy it, with or without a connection to my two favorite girls.

I've had the Minits CD for several years and enjoy it. I didn't buy this from Crystal Ball and wasn't aware of who they claimed was in the group? Setting that aside, it's a good CD. I have purchased from Crystal Ball in the past and they were nice folks to deal with. Maybe they should gaze into that crystal ball a little longer to get their info. correct! LOL! I'll pull out my CD and re-read the liner notes. As I remember, they had extensive liner notes. If there's any connection [[I doubt it), I'll let you know, David.

I can't say for sure. But Denise LaSalle was profiled rather well in the book LADIES OF SOUL by David Freeland. She went through her whole musical history and she never mentioned being a member of or recording as part of a girl group. I do believe she was a member of a Chicago gospel group at some point. But from what I read, all of her recordings were as a solo artist.

Not sure where the link to Ann and Denise came from. I'm pretty sure the Minits were Carolyn Watkins, her sister Mary Ann, plus Mary Anderson, all from Montgomery, Alabama.

Since this discussion originated I have purchased the CD. I see the similarity in sound but no, there was definitely no connection to either Ann or Denise.
