Loved "Mama Africa". "Pata, Pata" was a big party song at house parties in the sixties. Miriam Makeba was married to Hugh Masakela for a time as I recall.

Certain parts of her vocalizations remind one of Ella Fitzgerald. Her voice has a certain "bouyancy" that just brings joy to the heart.

I know. Stokely Carmichael aka Kwame Ture had lunch at my apartment when I was in college! He was one of the smartest, coolest individuals I had ever met.

Is she still living? I really only remember "Pata, Pata" and "Malaysia". Wasn't her daughter part of a duo called

I just find the click sound that she makes when she speaks her native tongue fascinating as all heck. I wonder what position you hold your throat and tongue in to pronounce that sound?
