    Paul Robeson photo 1942

I have been collecting items from the National Archives. I thought my friends here would like to see this photo.

"Paul Robeson, world famous baritone, leading Moore Shipyard [Oakland, CA] workers in singing the Star Spangled Banner...09/1942

Original Caption: "Paul Robeson, world famous baritone, leading Moore Shipyard [Oakland, CA] workers in singing the Star Spangled Banner, here at their lunch hour recently, after he told them: `This is a serious job---winning this war against fascists. We have to be together.' Robeson himself was a shipyard worker in World War I.", 09/1942

I'd love to see a movie that chronicles his story. He was one of the most remarkable men of the last century and few know much about him.

Yes. He sang with both grace and power, not an easy thing to do.

He had this great, big, booming voice that made you pay attention.
