Cool MARVIN to get inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame!

Songwriters Hall of Fame to Induct Tom Petty, Marvin Gaye, Elvis Costello

    3/2/2016 by Billboard Staff

Elvis Costello, Tom Petty and the late Marvin Gaye are among the artists selected to be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, set for June 9 in New York City. Joining that trio of legends will be 1960s hitmaker Chip Taylor and Chic principles Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, who died in 1996.

The new inductees are responsible for such iconic songs as “What’s Going On,” “Wild Thing,” “American Girl,” "Alison," “Le Freak” and many, many more.

"The 2016 roster of Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees is a beautiful mosaic of the best of late 20th Century popular music. With creators of Rock & Roll, Soul/R&B, Country and Funk/Dance represented, we are looking forward to an unforgettable and extremely exciting event and evening at the Marriott Marquis on June 9th," said co-chairs Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff, who are serving their first year in that role.

The hall's 47th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner will take place at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Gaye and Edwards will be inducted posthumously.

    *Michael Jackson
    *Ashford & Simpson
    *Sylvia Moy
    *Holland Dozier Holland
    *Norman Whitfield & Barrett Strong
    *Lionel Richie
    *Henry Cosby

    ----
Marvin will be the first Motown-associated inductee since 2006 and the first posthumous songwriter-artist to be in since Laura Nyro [[2010).

^ Too long, I say... I mean Sam Cooke had to wait 17 years to get his, Bob Marley around 21. Marvin, around 32.

And not to mention the people who covered them like the Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Martha, Gil Scott Heron, Diana, Aretha, etc.
