A Very Slight Fashion Footnote: The 'Supremes Effect' & The 'Little Black Dress'

    Sorry--Couldn't resist.
But it sure said 'Supremes' to me.

[[Hope the subject heading provided enough about what this was about--i.e., not music.)

    Diana, Mary, & Florence:

    And Susan Sarandon:

Nice try Methuselah, but I think it was Audrey Hepburn, not the Supremes, that set the trend.

That picture of the Supremes was the first visual I ever had regarding what these awesome ladies looked like. I thought Diana looked so much older than Mary and Florence in this picture [[and not in a bad way.) Great memory!

No problem there, Sharpmoves. No intent to take anything away from Hepburn's impact on the 'little black dress' popularity. I was merely surprised when I came across the photo of Sarandon and saw what looked like a dress that could possibly--only possibly, and only her dress specifically--owe something to the one The Supremes had worn years earlier--in reference to the shoulder treatment. I was just 'connecting the dots' . . . admittedly dots that might not have ever been there.

Enjoyed the article you attached, Sharpmoves. And Jobucats, your recollection about seeing that early Supremes photo, as well. Thanks both for posting.

This was the first pic I ever saw of The Supremes. It was love at first sight and has been ever since. The 'little black dress' never looked better....regardless of who set the trend!

And look where it led at Motown? Such elegance and charm all round.

How about this one? Lovely natural smiles, and black dresses again...
