What if the Four Tops had done the original version of "Don't Leave Me This Way"?

I know this is a Motown forum, but I'm going off the books here and toss up one that is from the '80s [[don't hate me). I was listening to "Human" by the Human League a few months ago. That is an idyllic Jam & Lewis production. As I was listening to it, I thought about if they had given it to Alexander O'Neal instead of the Human League. The interesting thing is that they were typically great about tailoring songs to their performers but I'm convinced this one must have been originally intended for O'Neal. I think he would have blown that song out of the water; it's very similar to many of his best songs, but I think it was watered down [[even though it was a huge hit).

Also, I'm going to commit sacrilege with this one but what the hell... I can easily imagine Smokey singing "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby". That's one of my favorite tunes and a great Memphis hit, but I would have loved to hear a Motown production of it and Smokey would have been the perfect voice to nail it.
