Another out of copyright CD release but you've all got the tracks already. Hardly a fitting title for the CD and whilst it has a nice cover the photo should have included Flo rather than Cindy. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Greatest-Hit...ords=motown://

For a useful and clear discussion of how these out-of-copyright CDs are made, and why they are so cheap, see http://www.acerecords.co.uk/faqs#q_2940, item 12 [["Why Are You Guys So Expensive?"), particularly the third paragraph.

Here Here, Ace is doing a fantastic job and certainly gets my support through the purchase of Motown and occasionally other genres of music [[London American, Spector etc). For better or worse the out of copyright releasers do have a market and can sometimes be the only source available eg Hallmark's Columbus Mann album. That said, personally I much prefer to buy original and official CDs when available.

It is a huge subject though. The digital download market appears to me to be unregulated. Albums spring up all the time with dubious titles and track lists. Motown compilations that include other label's artists - and I'm not talking here simply of out of copyright tracks either.

And as an aside, how much did Frank Wilson receive when originals of his "Do I Love You" 45 sold for huge sums? Rare CDs command high prices but the artists and record companies don't receive any extra revenue.

I get slightly confused by Real Gone music. They do seem to produce out of copyright packages and yet also put together some very fine issues such as Lesley Gore's "Someplace Else Now" and the up coming Bobby Darin package. I assume these titles are sourced from Motown and the appropriate royalties get paid but can that be said for their out of copyright offerings [[assuming of course that it IS the same company)?

I always thought that Real Gone Music [[U.S.) & Real Gone Music [[U.K.) were 2 different companies. The former company sourcing and paying royalties. I'm not so sure about the latter company's
    habits in that domain.

Carole, you are quite right. Lesley Gore and Bobby Darin were licensed from Universal.

The Lesley Gore packaging was superb and Bobby Darin's is looking great too. I really hope there's more to come - there is a bit of a Mowest feel so far. What with Ace, Real Gone, Soul Music Records and bbr releases there is an awful lot to be thankful for. These are people who care about the music.

I admit that I have bought a few cd's with tracks ripped from vinyl. But, if an authorized or Master Tape edition comes out, I replace the title with that one. If I can get the music in a clean, remastered form that is paying royalties to the artist, that's what I buy. Until it appears, I make due with the ripped from vinyl releases. I don't really feel guilty about that because I have them all on LP which I could rip myself, if I had the machinery and the inclination [[i.e., know how).

There do seem to be a small number of the Elemental CDs available on Amazon UK [[Four Tops Still Waters / Smokey / Rare Earth Get Ready. Mostly in Germany I think.

Me too......I prefer that I dont know how to rip cd's, then I can't be accused of ripping off the artists. However, in the last I have bought bootleg cd's [[unknowingly and knowingly) so I'm not totally without blame!

Can't wait to hear what everybody thinks of Bobby Darin's "Motown Years" which is finally out TODAY! All of us at Second Disc Records and Real Gone Music thank you deeply for your support of this project!

And thanks, too, to everybody above who cleared up the questions about Real Gone Music. The U.S. Real Gone label has no relation whatsoever to the U.K. public domain label of the same name, and all U.S. Real Gone titles are fully licensed from the rights holders including, of course, Bobby Darin and Lesley Gore. We hope there's more Motown [[and Mowest) on the way!

I remain puzzled as to why there is still no release on Ivy Jo and Blinky albums. Real Gone UK were going to release Ivy Jo but it never happened. There were three main requests for albums.... those two and The Fantastic Four release. We got the Fantastic Four, I just wish the release of the other two was forthcoming......

Were Real Gone UK really going to release the Ivy Jo album? The only reason I ask is because I thought that label was another of those UK labels which specialises in Out Of Copyright releases.

Great that we've cleared up the Real Gone issues. I think we have to wait a little longer in the UK for Bobby Darin. I certainly welcome the interest in Mowest though and look forward to future releases of the same quality.

Just a word about the Elemental releases which now seem to be more freely available. I've received the Four Tops one and it's a beauty. Mini LP card fold out sleeve and Motown label on CD. The other ones currently are Smokey, Get Ready from Rare Earth and People Hold On from Eddie Kendricks. Not bad for around a tenner each UK money wise.

Joe, I've been listening to this all morning. It is fantastic. It's funny that I only ever thought that Blue Monday was different on the original CD release! Great to have the singles on there, and FINALLY, the Sail Away album. I am just in heaven. I have a very large Bobby Darin collection and these tracks really add to it. Thanks for getting this out to us. Oh, and the Lesley Gore was also well done. I was never fond of that album but bought the CD anyway. Glad I did as a lot of it resonates more with me now than on first release.

Motown Chartbusters 5 Classic Albums.....out tomorrow [[Friday 13th) and supposedly the first 5 volumes of the UK series brought together. However, if the track listing is correct, they've missed out Volume 4 entirely. So you may get Volumes 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 in that case. Oops and more Oops. I hope that track listing is wrong!

Coming soon to CD, the Marvin Gaye album box sets Volumes 2 and 3.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/2-1966-Marv...eywords=motown

    Volume 3
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/3-1971-Marv...eywords=motown

I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the presentation for Volume 1 of this series. I did get it at a very low price so I can't complain at all about the value, nor the music of course. However, I'm not sure that I'll plump for either of the new sets. June 17 2016 is the UK release date.

Regarding the new 5 pack of Motown Chartbusters from Spectrum, there's good news in that the track listing on Amazon was wrong, and you do, in fact, get Volumes 1 to 5. Volume 4 is there after all.

The other good news is that the packaging is very good. They are in a mini lp format. Whilst being of the thinner card variety, the covers are of the original UK album series and so each carries the proper Tamla Motown logo. Front and back covers are re-produced. I love them from that point of view. The disc labels are black and carry the proper logo too.

Less great is that the printing on the covers seems a little thin in some places. Also the sound quality could be better for me [[but I think is probable the same as on the previous releases of these albums by Spectrum). I saw The Crusaders "Old Socks" on sale in HMV for £2.99 so bought it at the same time. The sound quality here is far better - not surprising I suppose as, although it is the Verve release, it is also the Motown issue as mastered by Kevin Reeves.

The other thing, of course, is that you've got them all already - as have I, but I couldn't resist the mini lp format. I have the original BMG issues which also included the TM logos, as well as the previous Spectrum issues which had mostly slightly different covers but at least made all 12 volumes available. No more please. Why not release the UK 16 Big Hits Series instead as mini LPs.

I got the Four Tops Cd. personally I was disappointed with the sound quality. I think it is the same master as the U.K 2fer from 2001, which sound very dull and muted.

I was hoping for a new, much more vibrant master as that of the recent Japanese CD's.

Given your thoughts on the sound quality on the Four Tops Elemental release Lakedistrictlad1 I had another listen and, to be honest, I don't have a problem with it. Sounds great to me through the headphones.

As I understand it, Elemental is more of a Jazz label and the Motown [[and other soul releases) don't seem to be listed on this website http://www.elemental-music.com

The Four Tops CD shows "Originally released in 1970 by Motown Record Corporation. All rights reserved. P & C 2015 Universal Music Group. Distributed by Elemental Music under license from Universal Music Spain S.L. Printed in EU".

Not sure why this was never released in the UK? have most of Jimmy's albums on CD, but not this one, just ordered from CDWOW HD UK for £8.61 including postage, have all the previous Elemental Music releases already, give them a go, cheaper than downloading.

I would most definitely get the Jimmy Ruffin and the Undisputed Truth CDs. It's great to be getting some things we don't already have!

I wonder if Ace/Kent has anything up its sleeve [[Motown-wise) for the next few months. They always do such great work!

Undisputed Truth - "Face To Face With The Truth" was already out in may, bought it here in Amsterdam together with the Eddie Kendricks, Four Tops, Smokey and Barry White releases on Elemental. This is my second CD version after the Universal Funk LP Series release from 2003.

Yes I have the previous "Face to Face with the Undisputed Truth" CD so will be unlikely to buy again through Elemental. We in the UK clearly have to wait longer for the Elemental CDs to be released, but even then, availability seems extremely erratic.

So, given the earlier EU releases, are there other Motown licensed CDs already out or coming soon that we don't yet know about, other than the 7 we already have?

I am particularly excited about The Groove Governor" since, as far as I know, that hasn't yet seen a proper CD release [[yes I know about the tracks on "The Ultimate Motown Collection").

I hope so, considering her health recently. The only complaint I had about the Fantastic Four collection was that none of the group's members who appear on the recordings were around to witness the release.

I have a hunch that there may be a Blinky CD on the way from ACE. And the only reason I have that hunch is that she has been conspicuously absent from any collection they have released thus far.

Possibly not. A bit too late 60's? Then again - we had the Fantastic Four release.

Blinky would be a great release, but didn't another record company have the rights to the Blinky recordings and had planned a release before the company stopped putting out releases? I believe they were also suppose to put out a project on Ivy Jo Hunter.

How about a set from Yvonne Fair, I bet she's got some great unreleased tracks from the late 60's - early 70s. Or how about the Final Detroit Recordings - Motown 1970-72.
