Its a real great list but Teddy Pendergrass and Dr Martha Reeves should have been high up on that list imo.

Where's Teddy Pendergrass? Otis Redding? Freddie Jackson? Temptations?

Anyhow, mine. NOTE: Diana, Stevie, Michael, their voice, talent, power, popularity, overall body of work - undeniable - but I really consider much of their career more as "crossover" artists - just as I also count as so on Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Prince, Lionel Richie, and Beyonce, as well as Billy Ocean and Al Jarreau.

Also....please, do not be offended by the absence of Martha Reeves on my list - honestly, there are many times I preferred her over Diana Ross myself. Also have quite a partial-ness for Edwin Starr, Patrice Rushen, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Alexander O' Neal, Cherrelle, Melba Moore, Kashif, Howard Hewett, and Johnny Gill - but, have to honor the even more legends first.

Well - top twenty at least. Would take forever to sort out whose greater - Kool and the Gang, the Whispers, Lakeside, the Persuaders, the Dramatics, the Manhattans, the Emotions, Stephanie Mills, ect.

    20. Solomon Burke
    19. Freddie Jackson
    18. Wilson Pickett
    17. Sam & Dave
    16. Isaac Hayes
    15. O'Jays
    14. Teddy [[Theodore) Pendergrass
    13. Patti LaBelle
    12. Gladys Knight
    11. Jerry Butler
    10. Curtis Mayfield
    9. Isley Brothers
    8. Smokey Robinson
    7. Four Tops
    6. James Brown
    5. Ray Charles
    4. Marvin Gaye
    3. Otis Redding
    2. Aretha Franklin
    1. Temptations
