Unsung Jennifer Holiday...not pleased Ms Hudson acknowledged Flo

Very powerful Unsung about Holidays amazing talent, poor treatment of others, weight, depression and ms; making amends with Sheryl Lee etc.; her displeasure that Hudson acknowledged Florence and not her at awards ceremnony. Geez. That to me in not cleaning up Holiday's image as she is trying to do. Still Jennifer is a great survivor although still pretty self absorbed.

Yeah well Jennifer Holliday can go pound salt in my opinion. She certainly has a lot of nerve to be upset that J. Hudson acknowledged Florence Ballard when she showed all types of indignation back in the early 80s when Mary Wilson would say in the press that the play 'Dreamgirls" was like watching her life on Broadway. Oh she raised all kinds of Hell over that and didn't even want Mary to come back stage. She did not want the public to make any kind of connection between Dreamgirls and the Supremes. Funny that her manager at the time was one Ms. Suzanne DePasse! Karma is a bitch! LOL!

I met Jennifer Holliday back in the 80's and I have to say she is probably the most difficult celebrity I have ever encountered. She was a guest on a TV show I was working on and you would not believe the demands her staff made. I have worked with Diana, Whitney, Mariah and Cher to name but four and none of them were an ounce of trouble compared with Ms Holliday. I won't go into detail here but suffice to say the woman had an ego the size of her body. Despite this she was an incredible vocal talent and when she started singing I was almost tempted to forgive the rudeness. I didn't realise she had dissed Mary
    but I am not surprised.
Even so we must not forget what an outstanding singer she was/is.

I have not met Stephanie Mills so I cannot comment on her, but in my experience some of the ones you would expect to be troublesome turned out to be anything but. I know everyone has their bad days but some celebrities seem to believe their own hype and deliberately set out to make life difficult for others. Jennifer Lopez was another nightmare to work with on more than one occasion.

I remember a record executive telling me about one artist who could be called difficult tt work with. He explained the difficult time this artist was having in America by saying

The people you meet on the way up, are the same ones that you meet on the way down and they don't forget!

Well Jennifer Hudson was photographed several times holding Mary Wilson's book, "Dreamgirl, My Life As A Supreme"! She's also met Mary several times and the icing on the cake is Mary now sings "I Am Changing", a song made famous by Jennifer Holliday in her act! LOL! I am not saying how's that for payback, but payback is a mutha! LOL!!!

I don't think Ms Holliday will lose much sleep over Mary performing "I am changing". For all of her numerous faults Ms Holliday is the consummate vocalist and is unlikely to be upstaged in the vocal stakes.

That's not what I meant. Ms. Holliday did everything she could to make out that "Dreamgirls" had nothing whatsoever to do with the Supremes and then you have The Supreme, Mary Wilson sing her song and name her best-seller "Dreamgirl.........". Then she turns around and gets upset when Oscar winner, Jennifer Hudson gives credit to Supreme Florence Ballard and not herself for originating the role of "Effie". It is a good example of what came first? The chicken or the egg? Follow me?

I follow you. Ms Holliday could use some lessons in humility. She could and should have had a far bigger career than she did. I recall Val Simpson talking of her experiences of working in the studio with Ms Holliday and it was not a happy time for Nick or Val.

I am not understanding the hostility towards Jennifer. On this show it was revealed that she suffered from clinical depression. She herself admitted that she was difficult and mean. She has survived, and has admitted her faults. That is a big thing. As far as the comment towards Flo. I once read a very informative piece on the making of the Broadway play. She was very instrumental in the development of that character. Effie was to be written out of the play at the end of the first act. Both Jennifer and Michael Bennett worked together on expanding her role and the rest is history. It is not that she was dissing Florence. She was simply saying that she created and developed this character and she just wanted some recognition. Again, she was clinically depressed so I don't think people should be so hard on her [[except for the people here who have first hand experiences with her). Funny how Florence, who exhibited some of the same behavior as Jennifer is praised for her actions, yet Jennifer is demonized for the same behavior.

skooldem - I can only speak as I find. I have suffered from depression but to the best of my knowledge I never treated people in the way Ms Holliday treated me and numerous others. I sincerely hope she has learned from her mistakes. If so then it would be fair to let bygones be bygones, but if you dish out the dirt you must be prepared to take it. You reap what you sow and I hope she is genuinely sincere in admitting her behaviour in the past.

Florence Ballard was never mean! For the record, the play Dreamgirls and the way it was originally written. Effie was suppose die at the end of Scene 1 after singing "And I Am Telling You......" Jennifer Holliday knew full well the story was about Florence Ballard. She also, because of her huge ego fought with Michael Bennett to let the character survive because she wanted more stage time. Now that is the truth!

    Hostility breeds hostility!

Didn't the show say she was incredibly ill from said ms, and lying on a sick bed, to the assumed brink of dying, praying for herself to not die like that [[MS and lack of recognition, largely possibly psychologically spurred from MS), when she viewed the awards speech on TV?

Yes. Unsung was filmed way after this and she's doing well now so for her to dismiss an original Supreme for her own ego is just inappropriate. She could have said Flo was a great performer and she herself molded the part or something similar. Ms Holiday said she would not do the show if it wasn't changed to her specifications.

I felt some type of way about actually watching her "Unsung". I'm glad I decided not to watch, thanks to the posts here. Whitney Houston did a better version of "I Am Changing" btw.

To clarify ... She wouldn't do Dreamgirls if it wasn't changed to her specificarions. You gotta give Sheryl Lee props for reaching out to Jennifer in recent times. Jennifer seemed to pause and then said they have a nice relationship now.

I remembered when they first talked about it. Had no idea it flopped but I probably wasn't surprised... I avoided Dreamgirls topics after she kept talking every 20 minutes to the press about it.

I don't fault Hudson. Or Holliday.

I've seen award speeches where winners forget to mention their spouses. If memory serves me right, Julia Roberts never mentioned Erin Brockovitch [[sp?) when she won Best Actress. In the heat of the moment, especially if you don't plan on winning, it's impossible to give a shout out to everyone in under a minute.

On the flips side, it's like thanking Diana Ross for playing Dorothy in "The Wiz" without mentioning Stephanie Mills. It's about respect and roots.

Without the Jennifer Holliday's, we don't have the Jennifer Hudson's. And you can't tell me that in preparing for the role, J-Hud didn't do research and steal a lick or two from J-Hol.

I did not see this episode, but I am certain that they have made amends since. Jennifer Hudson later did thank Jennifer Holliday; they even performed a duet of "And I am Telling You" on at least one occasion afterwards:

Diana Ross got bent out of shape when Halle Berry mention other famous black actresses during her Oscar acceptance speech, but did not mention Diane. Some people are just to full of themselves to get along with normal people.

Diana Ross Hits Out At Halle Berry

    http://www.contactmusic.com/diana-ro...at-halle-berry

Pop icon Diana Ross has hit out at Hollywood actress HALLE BERRY - because she didn't thank her during her MONSTER'S BALL OSCAR acceptance speech in 2002.

The 60-year-old STOP! IN THE NAME OF LOVE singer - who has starred in movies including MAHOGANY and THE WIZ - is upset Berry didn't draw attention to her efforts in paving the way for black actresses.

She says, "HALLE BERRY stood up there and thanked everybody else but never said DIANA ROSS.

"I was nominated for an ACADEMY AWARD for Lady Sings the Blues. If it hadn't been for what I did, maybe she wouldn't have been standing there getting an Oscar.

"Not that she had to say anything, but just a little reminder."

During Berry's emotional acceptance speech she said, "This moment is for DOROTHY DANDRIDGE, LENA HORNE, Diahann Carroll.

"It's for the women that stand beside me - Jada Pinkett, Angela Bassett, Vivica A Fox and it's for every nameless, faceless woman of colour that now has a chance because this door tonight has been opened."

Diana, who celebrates her 60th birthday today [[26MAR04), was said to have taken some bad advice about her film career which was halted by poor performances back in the 70's.

I guess Jennifer got humbled when she had to play gay bars in the 90's. She was at out local on in 1992, I believe... she came out right after the stripper [[Which was porn star Rod Garetto)

She has to be humbled. The gay/bisexual community is the only reason she still has a career! And she's also lucky she has a camp atmosphere around her too or otherwise I doubt some of us wouldn't be talking about her.

Because she tends to get dragged into many threads such as this.

Having said that I do concede she is indirectly involved due to the Dreamgirls link so I shall wind my neck in.

^ I was about to say she has been inadvertently connected to Dreamgirls. Mary was mentioned too. It's not turning into a Supremes thread... if it was, it would be totally bonkers right now with the usual suspects chipping in, don't you think?

Thank you skooldem. Ive just watched the episode and what I got was a young insecure lonely girl getting thrust into spotlight overnight becoming a star and dealing with mental illness and depression and MS. I applaud her for coming through it all and makingAmends with her past and theses she transgressed against . The hostility towards this woman in this here thread is real bitter and misguidedd IMO and I doubt most of the ones hurling the insults even watched the episode which Im sharing a link to. The poor girl even tried suicide once. I say Ms Holidays in a real good place right now and God bless her and may God bless and watch over the people of France.

even a post that's pure in heart and says it's prayers at night can become a supremes thread if diana's name is full and bright!!
