Doesn't the lady singing on the 'Motown : The Musical' cast recording of 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' sound remarkably like Diana....

Yes, agreed. Her voice is very similar, particularly on certain words and phrases, but all the time it sounds like an impersonation.

On the other hand, the song had to be arranged that way. If it had have been arranged differently, it would not have been authentic.

Paul reckoned it was a bit lightweight but I don't think you could expect anything more from Graham Norton. It was good to hear him though...Mr Gordy that is, not Norton

I wished I could have asked him a question.

Was you expecting him to say Mary Wells as the artist that left and upset him.

I did think it would have been Diana Ross...but Mary Wells was the first artist name which came to mind.

I think fans like us have retained the whole legend of Motown very close to heart for decades...but everyone who was actually involved there was just closely following their own life path, and did not, or still do not, see the whole picture [[which may be superficial) as we 'bystanders' do.....

I was shocked - I was only going to ask her why she was transferred to the Motown label from VIP....I still got to ask the question but she didn't know the answer

The advantage of listening to this on catch-up was the ability to fast forward to the actual interview. It appeared as though Graham Norton hadn't done any proper research so Berry was answering the same questions he's been asked for the last fifty years! That said, good to hear Berry. I gather he later recorded a television special that will air on Christmas Eve.

Berry struggled somewhat when asked about the current singers he enjoys....which didn't surprise me for someone who will soon be nearer 90 than 80 years of age...and quite reassured me, also....

I've recorded the programme, but haven't had a chance to listen yet. The Radio Times didn't help matters by saying in the programme guide [p. 134] "Guests include Motown founder Gordon Berry...".
