help with name of a bar on east side of 12th st

    Hey guys/gals,

Bettye is trying to think of the name of a BAR on the east side of 12th, somehwere between Webb and either Courtland or Davison. It was owned by the Fishmans who eventually built the Chit Chat. Either Rudy Robinson & The Hungry 5 and Washboard Willie & The Supersuds were the house bands, most times.

She worked there with Freddie Butler in the early 60s.

    Anybody?????

Hi Kevin; you can also post your question on the 'Detroit Yes!' forum, as those members have access to maps, street indexes, etc. If you like, I can post your question over there.

I just called my aunt in The highland Park area of Detroit and she wonders if Bettye means the Astor Bar which was real close to the Chit Chat or the Raven Lounge or Jumbos. my aunt says there was many illegal bars and clubs called blind pigs arounfpd that time. Sadly they all destroyed in the riots in the late 1960s.

Welcome. Real glad Bettye remembered. Theres nothing worse than trying to think of a name when you know darned well you have it in your head but cant think of it.

Thats right Kevin and it happens to us all. IVe lost more pairs of reading glasses and usually find them in my hair. Thats why I buy 10 pair from the 99 cent store and place them all over the house lol.

    have a lovely Sunday.

    fondly,

    Roberta
