    Quiet Elegance

A group you don't hear much about....at least I haven't. Have really enjoyed their CD. Lois Reeves [[Martha's sister) was in the group along with 2 members of The Glories.

I'd completely forgot about this group. It's interesting that Lois wound up in a group with a
deeper soul sound than her sister or virtually any of Martha's peers at Motown were capable
of...I'd except Gladys Knight given the right material. I know several others recorded You Got
My Mind Messed Up but I'm having trouble listing them. Want to say Otis Clay, hmm...Anyway, that you know, has Lois ever got a lead?...

I think Frankie Gearing had all the leads. Maybe Lois got a lead when they sang live?
Frankie was part The Glories....really enjoy this CD, too.

I heard QE first in clubs and house parties when I was living in the southern US more than 25
years ago. Liked their sound but never knew anything about them or their history. Today I became a Frankie Gearing hunter. I want all of her stuff...Thanks very much for those links...

Spanky....if you don't have this CD, I think you'd enjoy it. Frankie Gearing was a member of the Glories prior to Quiet Elegance. I have this CD and the Glories CD. I cannot find the latter anymore, but, the first one contains most of their work. Enjoy! You can find The Poppies Meet The Glories on amazon.

I love this group ! Too bad they didn't have no LP.

This compilation is perfect : "The Complete Quiet Elegance" : http://www.discogs.com/Quiet-Eleganc...elease/2046576

In the booklet Lois tells how much she liked to record in Memphis :"The experience with the musicians in Memphis was more intimate. At Motown you sang with a finished track, minus the strings or horns. The basic track was done before we got to the studio. You never really saw the musicians unless one of them had to re-dub his contribution. At the Hi Recording studio it was just the opposite, the musicians composed the music while we sang the songs."

That's a great CD, Phil. I play it a lot. Yes, interesting point by Lois in regards to recording in Memphis as opposed to Detroit.

many years ago, I walked into a piano bar that was in a big hotel in St. Petersburg, Fl. & there was a female vocalist that caught my ear & I sat down to listen & then she said something that caught my ear & I asked someone who she was and they said "Frankie something... I told my friend that I think that's Frankie Gering that use to sing with Marthas sister.Sure enough it was her we had a good visit & she told me that she was living in Daytona Beach.
