In 1962 Marilyn Monroe was filming “Something’s Got To Give” with Dean Martin [[a remake of the 1940 film “My Favorite Wife” with Cary Grant and Irene Dunne). Due to illness and battles with the studio [[20th Century Fox) Monroe was fired from the film. The role was then offered to Kim Novak and Shirley MacLaine, both turned it down. The role was then offered to Lee Remick who accepted. However Martin had co-star approval and said if Monroe was off the picture then so was he. After a series of legal battles Fox relented and offered to reinstate Monroe, at a higher rate of pay, to complete “Something’s Got To Give” and agree to a second film “What A Way To Go!”

Filming was to resume after Martin completed an engagement in Las Vegas. But Monroe died before filming could resume and the project was permanently shelved. The following year [[with a revised script and using the sets from “Something’s Got To Give”) the film was remade as “Mover Over, Darling” starring Doris Day and James Garner [[“Move Over Darling” is my most favorite Doris Day song!).

“What A Way To Go!” was later made with Shirley MacLaine. And of course our birthday girl Lee Remick went on to have a memorable acting career.
