Make This A Birthday To Remember.......

If I have this right, then it is Ralph's Birthday today....?

If so, Happy Birthday to you, Ralph. Thanks for having all of us here with you!

Hope you have a great day, making many new memories for the future.

May all your days feel like Summer.

Happy Birthday Ralph! Thanks for letting us know WGB.

Let's not forget that, in addition to Ralph, it is also brother Russ's birthday today.

    Best send more elephants, Arr&bee.....LOL

  6. #6
    And..... there's more.

To add to the list of 'birthday today' people.....there's George Solomon, 762rob, and Della Reese......

So, exactly how many elephants can you supply, before midnight...??

  7. #7
    Calling all elephants-calling all elephants.

  8. #8
You'll have to shout louder. Most of them are in Africa, or India.....!

  9. #9
I've just noticed that Kent Washburn also needs to be added to the 'Birthday Today' list.

We're hoping everyone is enjoying their special day!!

  10. #10
    HI Ralph,
Wishing you a very happy birthday!

Here in the UK, I can remember the days when ringing long distance was known as making 'trunk calls'.....

  13. #13
If anyone here on SDF has their own birthday today, July 7th - or who will be remembering a special someone who was born on this date, including those who have passed away - then please let us know, and have a great day!

  14. #14
    Umm,west i don't have that many elephants!!

  15. #15
I think they herd it through the grapevine
    Attachment 9650

  16. #16
Thanks all for the birthday wishes, and happy birthday to those who share the date.. Now that's a serious herd of elephants. Don't show this to arr&bee.

  17. #17
Under no circumstances! It is imperative that it remain a complete secret.

The description 'three-ring circus' wouldn't even come close to picturing what could happen next....

  18. #18
Hey ralph, who do ya think got em together for that picture and they're heading your way too, hehehe!!!

  19. #19
On Safari with Arr&bee. Just what we need.....

  20. #20
Today we remember Earl Van Dyke, who was born on this date in 1930, and passed away in 1992.

To remember, all we need to do is play very many of the Motown tracks recorded in Detroit, and there he will be, featured on the keyboard. Or, 'The Motown Sound - The Complete Albums & More'.....

Anyone have a favourite track which features Earl Van Dyke?

Also, if anyone shares their birth date with Earl Van Dyke, or has a special someone who was born on this date, including anyone who has passed away, then say hello here - and have a great day!

  21. #21
Umm west,do you really want to hear from someone who has ..passed away???

  22. #22
Well, death may end a life, but not a relationship...and of course, I'm meaning hearing from someone alive, who is remembering someone who has passed away (as you very well know...)..... but the thought of hearing from someone 'on the other side' doesn't bother me.

Well, if it did, I wouldn't be responding to any of your posts....

So, talking long distance, what's your favourite Earl Van Dyke track?

  23. #23
A birthday to remember? If you remember your birthday, you haven't celebrated hard enough.

    Very belated Happy Birthday, Ralph.

  24. #24
That sounds a good idea. Spending 364 days a year celebrating a birthday, which you then can't remember, and start all over again...

  25. #25
    Thanks 144man,
You guys make me laugh at times.

  26. #26
My fav from earl van dyke..all of em!

  27. #27
'I Can't Help Myself'...where I assume his piano is dubbed over his own playing on the band track. To me, it all sounds weirdly discordant (as if the record is warped!) but strangely compulsive....

That, and 6 x 6...just to name two.....

  28. #28
Anyone here sharing a birthday with Tom Hanks today?

  29. #29
    Is[wilson]invited???

  30. #30
    Which Wilson......?

  31. #31
the first one was lost at sea, so the second one.

  32. #32
Remembering Johnny Griffith, another of the Funk Brothers, who was born on this date, July 10th, in 1936. He passed away in 2002.

I believe that is Johnny playing the electric piano we hear on Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine".

Anyone else sharing their birth date today with Johnny Griffith?

  33. #33
July 11th, and hoping Bonnie Pointer is well, happy and in touch with her sisters on her 65th birthday today.

Also remembering Roquel 'Billy' Davis, born on this date in 1932. Co-writer (as Tyran Carlo) of 'Reet Petite (The Finest Girl You Ever Want To Meet'), 'Lonely Teardrops', 'To Be Loved', 'You Got What It Takes' and more....

Anyone to be added to the list....?

  34. #34
I think that[tyran carlo]co wrote some ealy miracles songs also.

  35. #35
You thought right! Billy Davis, as 'Tyran Carlo', co-wrote 'Got A Job' with Berry Gordy, which was the first single for (Smokey Robinson &) The Miracles. Released on End Records, in 1958. It was an 'answer' record to The Silhouettes 'Get A Job'....and also around was 'I Found A Job' by The Heartbeats, 'I Got A Job' by The Tempos, 'I Got Fired' by The Mistakes. That series of titles sounds like a thread here on SDF, doesn't it....

Will check out some more Tyran Carlo songs, while wondering if anyone here is having a birthday today, or remembering someone else who is/had....

    It didn't take long....!

Today is the birthday of our very own (and newer member) Sharpmoves, who has started a very interesting thread on Martha Reeves & The Vandellas. Have a great day, Sharpmoves!

  37. #37
    I like that name...sharpmoves,very cool!!!

  38. #38
You've more than enough moves of your own, arr&bee...and all of them are extremely sharp...LOL

  39. #39
More songs which credit 'Tyran Carlo' as composer :

    Jim Dandy Got Married
    It's So Fine
    both recorded by LaVern Baker

Just For Your Love - The Falcons

All I Could Do Was Cry - Etta James

That's Why (I Love You So)
    I'll Be Satisfied
both recorded by - Jackie Wilson

and Billy Davis also produced, for the Coca-Cola company, the jingle "I'd Like To Buy The World A Coke", which later became "I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing (In Perfect Harmony)".....

Happy Birthday to anyone born today, July 13th!

  40. #40
You know west,we talk so much trash around here that i almost forget that you are one of sdf's most noted music authorities.

  41. #41
Nice words Arr&bee, thank you, but I'm far less a music authority than many here (including yourself) although I do have a reasonable recall....assuming I knew the information in the first place, that is....LOL

Now, I wasn't aware we were talking SO much trash around here....!! Not intentionally, anyway. It's good to keep it light, and to keep it going...and the 'views' do indicate that some people are interested.

So, unless anyone here lets us know it is their birthday today, July 14th, let's all have a happy unbirthday.

  42. #42
Well west, one thing's for sure we sure keep things...unoffcial!!!

  43. #43
Yes, it's so unofficial, that it's official!

Today, July 15th, is officially Millie Jackson's birthday. So...."Anybody here don't like Millie Jackson.....etc, etc.." (!)

If you like Linda Ronstadt, or are into artists like Rembrandt...well, it's their birthdays, too!

Whatever you are doing today, enjoy it...

  44. #44
I was with ol remy just last week,he's gonna open a studio in da hood.

  45. #45
The grand opening will be quiet.

Like Rembrandt, every one there has been dead nearly 350 years.

  46. #46
Umm west...exactly how old are you?????

  47. #47
I'm as old as my nose, and a little older than my teeth.

  48. #48
    Good answer.

  49. #49
The time may soon come when I'm considerably older than some of my teeth...... LOL

A big 'Happy Birthday!', to anyone reading this who is celebrating their own special day, or remembering that of another today, July 16th
