Jamie Foxx - The National Anthem - Mayweather/Pacquiao Fight

Was is as bad as the reports are saying? Well, as far as I'm concerned, it definitely wasn't good but I didn't think it was as bad as the news is portraying it. The rendition certainly didn't work and Foxx couldn't pull off various parts of it. But, at times, he hit the notes well and securely--although not enough to make it an enjoyable performance.

Bad. It was really, really bad. He sang the words, but not the song. He was way worse than Marvin [[the best), not nearly as good as Whitney [[next best), and worse than Jose Feliciano. On the flip side, he was definitely not as horrible as Macy Gray or Carl Lewis.

How did I forget the crotch-grabbing Rosanne Barr? That nearly ruined her.

Jerry - Because you 'Barr-ed' it from memory. Which was definitely the way to go.

Oh, was there a fight that night? I saw two guys doing interpretive dance for an hour but didn't know they were supposed to be fighting.

Owww! My ears! I couldn't even finish listening to it!

It's not that he doesn't have the ability to sing, he's just tone deaf!

Badness. And not the good definition of 'bad', either. Just... Bad!

Here's Jose Feliciano's, which actually sounds a lot better now than it did in 1968:

I guess it's not as easy as it would seem:

After all of the hubbub around it, I was expecting to hear something really awful. It is certainly not my favorite version, but I think it is ok. It would have been nice if he had stuck to the melody a bit more, especially at first, and I could have done without the run at the end. But it isn't the train wreck I was expecting.

My wife just heard it for the first time and she actually thought that it was good.

To be honest, I listened to it as she watched and it didn't make my ears bleed, so maybe I was a little too quick to judge [[like I was with Jose...). But I still wouldn't buy it.
