On Stevie Wonder's "You Haven't Done Nothing" he mentions the Jackson Five and Jackie Jackson.
Arthur Conley and Diana name a dozen in Sweet Soul Music..............Aretha, Stevie. And Nightshift names Marvin and Jackie etc.
Back in my Arms Again was a stroke of genius in using the names!
No I mean when the group members of that song are mentioned.
Damn! You beat me to it, marv2! Also, The Jones Girls' "I Just Love the Man" [["Hey, Shirley!", "Yes, Valorie.", "Now what do you want, Brenda?").

In Dion's "The Wanderer," when he sings, "There's Flo on my left, and there's Mary on my right" I have ALWAYS thought he was talking about the Supremes!
Just before Marvin sings "Like an eagle protects his nest" in YOU'RE ALL I NEED TO GET BY, he sings "Yeah, yeah yeah . . . yeah, Tammi. Listen." Not part of the actual lyrics perhaps but definitely heard on the recording.
How about "T.C.B." by Diana Ross and the Supremes and the Temptations?
"No Diana, we're the Temptations, the Dreams are another group".
In "Too Strong To Be Strung Along", by The Marvelettes, Gladys mentions 'Juanita', which I've always assumed is referring to original group member, Juanita/Wyanetta Cowart.....
The Temptations 'For Once In My Life' : "now then Paul, you're not alone" [[or very similar lyric)
Great ones..I did think I heard "Tammi" in there.. ..that's so cool about Mary and Flo in Dion song! Those ladies are soooo popular! Although I just checked and it entered the charts in Dec of 1961 so I wonder...

One of my favourites mentioning himself ....
And a somewhat sappy tune where Paul McCartney mentions Michael Jackson ......
Clarence Carter
"Blow Your Horn Lonnie" .....
Also New Edition's "Cool It Now" [['Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, and Mike/If I love the girl, who cares who you like?").
Doesn't diana say "Oh marvin" somewhere on their album?
Sequence and "Funk You Right On Up"-[[aka Angie Stone and crew)
Kurtis Blow - "the Breaks!"
Mary Wells & Marvin Gaye What's The Matter With You, Baby
At 1:22 he sings "Mary won't you let me get on your good side...." she responds with "If I did then Marvin it would hurt my pride......"
"Oh Diana I wanted to be everything to You" Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross
"You Are Everything"
" Jean You're Supreme", "Levi you're a Top", Mary you Take too much" ..."You Got What It Takes" ..............The Four Tops and The Supremes.
You guys are good...I could only think of the High Inergy version of Back In My Arms Again!
THE SUPREMES AND THE FOUR TOPS you've got what it takes Just about everyone gets a shout out on this one! Jean you are Supreme, right on , right on Jean, Levi you're a Top, Sang Mary lawd, lawd, lawd, and Obie you've got what it takes, Mary you're just too much!,

Also on the "Join" album Diana mentions Melvin name but I can't remember the song. I think its "Try It Baby"
I always thought it was strange that the gal who's the subject of "Leader of the Pack" is named Betty in the song when it was Mary Weiss doing the singing. Betty [[also known as Sissy) was her sister who sometimes sang with the group but wasn't a constant member. [[Mary and the Ganser twins comprised the usual lineup as a trio.) Jeff, Ellie and Shadow certainly knew Mary would be singing the lead and it wouldn't have changed the lyric significantly to have used that name.

I know their history but didn't realize the details of the song. Very interesting.
In the song, Betty says she "met him at the candy store." But if my hunch is right, it was a bar. Bad girls don't go to candy stores--they go to bars. Bad boys do, too. Not that I would know first-hand. Oh, no, not me. As The Shangri-las once sang: "Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no, no, no, no, no." Oh, well, maybe.
Betty was in the group more than you think, she was just out temporarily during the group's peak. She returned and then one of the Ganser twins left the group shortly after. Betty did lead on most of the groups early songs but starting with "Remember", Mary took over. I wonder if maybe they had written "Leader of the Pack" with the intention that Betty would sing lead but when it became known that she would be leaving the group soon they gave it to Mary and just didn't bother to change the lyric. It's also interesting to note that Betty and one of the twins are the ones speaking to "Betty"[[Mary) in the opening of the song.
He's good bad but he's not evil"!!! Tell me more..tell me more.
