That must include a good chunk of Motown artists so Marvin's family [[the estate) is gonna see more money from digital royalties... good news. Especially in light of what has happened in recent weeks.

Hah! Gotta love it! They refuse to admit guilt while admitting guilt by paying.

Either way, looks like the prices of downloads is going up.

Well that will explain why Universal stuck two fingers up to its loyal fans, who have been buying Hip-O cd's for years, and went for the download option. So they don't need to pay royalties.

    That stinks.

Universal doesn't even bother to look up Artist's addresses to send them their royalty checks instead they lazily turned the monies over to the state of California. Just routine business of the music industry screwing their Artists out of monies they earned over a half of century!
    SMH!!!

Maybe Digital Downloads should come with a Federal Warning "not paying royalties is not a victimless crime & is killing music".

And then there are all the people that just plain stole the music; and then there's "streaming".

    Soulster - I believe it's one finger in the U.S - and 2 fingers in the U.K.

    It amounts to the same.

I agree. They love to screw artists over. The music industry's full MO has to change because that's just ridiculous.

Nah, the biggest culprit are the labels. Streaming is legal and CAN actually be beneficiary in introducing an artist. The labels just steal the money right in front of the artists. That's why it's easy for artists to "blame" it on downloaders and people who simply stream it but then they think they're doing something innovative and it turns out to be a bust [[read: TIDAL).
