My favorite David Ruffin song and often my favorite Motown song [[though there are too many favorites, so "the" favorite changes at times)...
...and the background girls sound like they've just walked out of church too.
Pass the collection plate of soul.
It was like "Motown Meets Mississippi [[Baptist Church!)"
Right on marv,right on...david forever.
I first became aware of this song through Little Anthony and the Imperials' single in 1970. I didn't even know it was a Motown song at the time. Both versions are extremely good.
For my money,
David meets Ashford & Simpson does it every time!
Thank you, Carole. This track should have been released. It deserved to be a huge hit for David, for A&S, AND for Motown.
I didn't know Little Anthony and the Imperials covered World of Darkness! Thanks for pointing it out.
I always perceived World of Darkness as the gloomy counterpart of My Girl, particularly because of the opening line: The sun may be shining sunny and bright, but my world is black like the darkness of the night... quite to opposite to ... I've got sunshine on a cloudy day...
