That was great Luke! This was the year before Mary Wilson's Holiday Spectacular.
Thanks for sharing this thrilling video, Luke. Darlene Love has still got it all! On the promotional CD "A Christmas Gift For You" one-hour radio-special, which is a radio-show documentary released in 2009 honoring Phil Spector's historic Christmas recordings, Darlene Love and Lala Brooks of The Crystals are interviewed in between their respective tracks, as are Hal Blaine [[drummer), Don Randi [[Pianist)), and Nino Tempo [[Sax & Guitar) of Phil's Wrecking Crew. [[Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes is conspicuously missing.) In Darlene's interview for the track "Christmas [[Baby Please Come Home)", she tells how Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich were on the phone in NYC, composing the song on the spur of the moment, feeding the lyrics -- a line at a time -- to Phil Spector at the Philles Gold Star recording session in California. Darlene also says that, as the song came together and the session players worked out their parts, it was the first time ever that she KNEW that this track was gonna be around for a long, long time -- and boy was she right! It's powerful and exciting, and it sounds just as good live today as it does on the original 1963 recording. It would have been interesting if Mary and Cissy had each sung a verse in the above video performance.
