Great list. I first heard Luther in 1975 with the album "Luther" and they were a group!

Are these his compositions or some unreleased recordings? Glancing at the list, I know Aretha recorded THIS IS FOR REAL and Dionne Warwick did WHAT CAN A MIRACLE DO.

My uncle came back from vacation in Mississippi with that album. Nobody could believe that we had never heard of him before. I'm a huge fan of Luther Vandross and 'The Second Time Around' was on the album he played for us. I think it was 'Luther'. It showed up later on one of his solo records. I was shocked to find out that he was nominated for Best New Artist even though he'd been doing it for years when his solo album was released.

My brother Robert bought both of the "Luther" albums as they were released in Ohio. the music was so very good that my high school used the song "This is For Real" by Luther as it's theme song for the homecoming assembly in the Fall of 1977.

That's interesting. I visited central Ohio record stores every payday and sometimes in between but none of my outlets ever had a copy of the Luther [[group) albums. I feel cheated somehow 30 years after the fact...

Jerry there use to be some really good ones on High Street in Columbus near OSU in the mid 80s.

I shopped at Singing Dog Records as soon as I cashed my check every Friday. That was the best record store on campus back then. I also went to Skoolkids and Magnolia Thunderpussy, two other popular campus shops. I think Singing Dog is still open, but since I don't do vinyl, I haven't been there in nearly 25 years.

Man, you just took me back down memory lane! If by 2-7 albums per week, many of them cut-outs and old radio station promos. I still have most.

As The Second Disc enters its fifth year as your go-to destination for classic music news and reviews, we’re excited to share our biggest news yet: a partnership with one of our favorite labels, Real Gone Music, to create Second Disc Records!

They are asking for suggestions for future releases.
I suggested releasing the 2 Luther albums on Cotillion.
Maybe more people from this forum can do the same!

I think I remember Skoolkids record store most from those days. I did much like you did. I scoured stores from Michigan, Colorado, Ohio, Pennsylvania [[ the smaller towns like Lancaster had the best stores), Princeton, NJ, Philadelphia, NYC, Canada, including Windsor, Toronto and Montreal. Then there were the monthly Record Shows at the Knights of Columbus in Toledo! LOL!

And don't forget the record chains like Record and Tape Outlet, Peaches, and Sam Goody. I seldom shopped there because the prices were too high and I found hidden gems at the independent stores. I've been digitizing a lot of them in the last couple of years because I can't find them on digital or CD. Groups like Autumn, Kiddo, Ozone, and Skwares got minimal air play in Columbus but they blared out of my cassette deck.

My mom once told me something that made me smile. My father [[who probably wondered about me with my ever expanding collection) was entertaining my uncle and his annoying wife when she [[after having her drinks) asked why anybody needed all of those records. Well, Pops responded to her that she didn't need to know. All that she needed to know was that if I wanted them, then I had them.

And now, 30 years later, I'm still happy that I did. BTW, Mom just asked me if I wanted Dad's records. He's still with us, but he never uses his turntable anymore. You can pretty well guess my answer!

When I put a couple of them on after 25 years of cassettes and CDs, the fidelity in some of my old records blew my mind. Unfortunately, many of them have aged poorly and a couple hundred of my jackets were ruined when my basement flooded so I consider their value to be sentimental more than anything.

But maybe I should price a few of them... [[Never thought about that.)

I began the practice of buying the protective plastic jackets in 1979. They've been stored in a cool , desolate place for the last 20 years now.

I remember reading that Luther owned the masters to those two Luther albums that were recorded on Cotillion thus preventing them from being released. I've always heard good things about those recordings and have searched high and low in our vinyl stores here in Detroit for them

You have me beat by a lot. I haven't counted but I think I have about 700 vinyl albums, 400 or so cassettes, and thousands of CDs. I've about 30 gigs of records on my computer.

Whew! Is there anything that you don't like? You have to be a fan of nearly every genre to have that much.

From the "Luther" LP Don't Wanna Be Your Fool has been a massive spin here in the UK for 30 years. Follow My Love is also great, the LP is very good over all though.

Didn't Luther destroy all the Cotillion masters as he didn't like them? Sure I read or heard this somewhere in the dim distant past.

Lets see if the Second Disc can look into this if all Luther fans request the release of those 2 albums.
