Nice review. I wrote a comment: This was the very first Temptations album I ever bought back in the early 80’s and remains one of my favorite by the group. It’s perfect from start to finish. And if you have never heard Brenda Holloway’s version of Who’s Loving You, then treat yourself and give it a listen, it ranks right up there with the Tempts version, and surpasses the J5’s version, which I never really cared for.

Great article, funkyone71. The "Temptations Sing Smokey" was the first Temptations album that I ever bought back in the day - Spring 1965. It was perfect from start to finish, and I can still see that shiny Gordy label with the yellow "It's what's in the grooves that count" at the top like it were yesterday. That record album shined both aurally and visually! It was also the first time that I realized that Motown albums smelled great when you first opened them -- always a treat for the ears, the eyes, AND the nose! Motown was gettin' hot, and "The Temptations Sing Smokey" was a classic example why. - Gary

Vgilando, I agree, too, but with one exception. For me, Smokey's "Tempts Sing Smokey" ties for Number 1 with Norman Whitfield's production of The Tempts "With A Lot O' Soul".

I've always loved this album--it was one of the first LPs I ever bought. Let's not forget some other great tracks that eventually were released which, I believe, came from the Temptations Sing Smokey sessions: "Happy Landing" with Eddie on lead [[released on Lost & Found The Temptations "You've Got To Earn It"); "What's Easy For Two Is So Hard For One" with Paul on lead and "My Smile Is Just A Frown [[Turned Upside Down)" with Eddie on lead [[the last two were both released on Ultimate Rarities Collection: Motown Sings Motown Treasures).

Last year I drove from Georgia to Michigan and listened to the Temptations albums Sing Smokey, Temptin' Temptation, Gettin Ready and WIth A lot of Soul all in a row. Those four albums are all stand out and some of Motown's classic period bests albums.
