    Roger,
I have spent time on DFTMC trying to find what you are referring to in terms on the non Dorsey Burnette tracks. Could you offer us a bit more detail as to where we can find what you are referring to? Thank you in advance.

longtimefan you can find the information by going to the Contents page on the site. At the bottom is Bonus tracks - click on Additional material -- never saw that before, myself.

Wow....this is incredible. As longtimefan says - it's come from out of nowhere.

So much 'new' Motown to take us through into 2015. Incredible.

There seems to almost an albums worth of Marvin Gaye standards. I have never read about these sessions.

Bit steep at £28 quid though. I think i'll wait a while to see if the price comes down in the new year.

I was under strict instructions not to announce it here first, but since the cat's out of the bag now... I played 2 tracks from this compilation on my radio show yesterday, and good they were too! [[I chose Marvin's "When I Fall In Love" and Hattie Littles - the latter was extraordinary).

The cloudcast version of last Sunday's show will be available to listen online from Saturday. I'll leave it to Harry W to make a proper announcement about the actual release

I purchased the download some three hours back, using TheBoyFromXTowns link, and I am now thoroughly enjoying listening to the tracks over a decent sound system.

I'm currently listening to the FOUR TOPS singing "Girl From Ipenema" for the second time .. great version of the Bossa-Nova classic .... anyone have any idea who is singing the lead as it sure doesn't sound like Levi?

See the annotations at http://www.dftmc.info/bonus/b-02.html, for the answer to your question, Roger ... I'm impressed that Mr Polhill found those annos so quickly: Ritchie got them online just yesterday, and we were going to keep quiet about them until the release date - supposedly tomorrow!

I meant to add credits for mastering engineer Seth Foster - a fine job done, and I speak as one who heard many of the tracks in their pre-mastered state - and of course for series producer Harry Weinger, without whom ...

[[yes, I hope I can now call this a series!)

I glad those songs were made available, after listening to the snippets, I discovered that there are only a few that I like very much, 3 by Brenda Holloway, the Johnny Bristol, 1 by Marvin Gaye. The Kim Weston, Hattie Littles, 1 of the LaBrenda Bens, 1 Four Tops and a couple other Brenda Holloways and Marvin Gayes, and a few of the Earl Van Dykes and Chuker Campbells are listenable. All in all, it's a little disappointing [[probably because everything else from 1964 that COULD be released by Motown has been released already). I'm still extremely angry that some of my very favourite "Motown" recordings have been determined to NOT be owned by Motown, and, thus remain on acetates only in private hands [[including "Tears, Nobody, and A Smile").

I found the final designation [[at the dftmc website) for the Dorsey Burnette set [[lower right hand corner) to be refreshing and intriguing.
Thanks to all who are bringing us 'Vault-Mania"

Well I was surprised that there were no unreleased tracks by the Velvelettes, Martha & The Vandellas or Stevie Wonder from 1964. Could they have all be released already?

Noting the composer of Blue Berry, are there any other songs authored by Berry Gordy that incorporate his name in the title?

Seeing Sherlie Matthews' name listed alongside Frank Wilson's on "Now that Love Is Gone" , is this one of her earliest Motown compositions?

I wonder if "Must Be Quite A Show" and/or "Peace Of Mind" were being considered for possible Marvin Gaye- Oma Heard duets?

I've only listened to 'CD 1' so far, but tend to agree with Robb. On my limited listen, I found 'Unreleased 1963' better.

Anyone else find CD 1 track 23 - Marvin Gaye's 'Now She's Gone' defective, cutting out after about 1m 24secs?

I thought all of their duets had been released already- the last one being Kiss, Kiss

Yes, all the known duets have been released . I was only wondering if either of the songs I list might have been considered as possible duets between Marvin & Oma, but eventually ended up only with Marvin's vocals.

    If John Lester sees this,
Do you think that the voice providing the high notes [[background vocals) on LaBrenda's "Go On Sleeping" belongs to Liz Lands?

Probably so, due to their anthologies and other CD releases. Brenda Holloway had a lot more unreleased as she didn't have many album releases, unlike Martha & Vandellas or Stevie Wonder. And ALL The Velvelettes' unreleased material got released on CD due to very high demand from a large cult following.

Also- I'm still unhappy that Edward Earling's 1962 and 1963 cuts weren't released.

CD 2 - Autumn In New York by Marvin is also defective, cutting out right at the end. Very annoying. You ought to check yours, along with 'Now She's Gone' that I mentioned earlier. I downloaded from Google Play but they're the same on Spotify, so I assume both files are faulty. Anyone from Universal able to fix the problem?

I can't hear anything wrong with either of those two MARVIN GAYE tracks alanh.

I bought the collection via Amazon and have copied them onto my computer for transfer onto C.D. etc. .. the file sizes and timings display as follows ....
    "Autumn In New York" - size - 3.71megabytes ... timing - 2.59 minutes.
    "Now She's Gone" - size - 4.69megabytes ..... timing - 3.41 minutes.
Can you tell if that is the same as the copies you are hearing?

    Roger

  32. #32
Yes, both the Marvin tracks show the same running times but do drop out, waiting for Google Play to get back to me with more info.

  33. #33
Just spoke to Google, they are going to look into the problem and get back to me, strange that is two Marvin tracks .......
Have Universal messed up again, looks like a refund from Google may be on the cards.

Roger, your file sizes will be different as Amazon uses a variable bitrate, whereas Google use 320Kbps constant bitrate

The '63 collection had a duff Marvin Gaye track also.

I wish someone would quality control these things.

Still, I got my money refunded last time around, so would be interested to know how you get on backflipboy.

Friend of mine has just emailed Harry about the problem ....... just awaiting his reply now :-)

I downloaded these from Amazon, and just listened to these two tracks again, and both songs played without any problems. And while Marvin's "crooner period" isn't my favorite Marvin period, Autumn in New York is quite beautiful. There are some nice Marvin tracks on this collection.

Thanks for your comments and thanks for contacting Google Play backflipboy. I emailed them this morning but have not had a reply yet. It's strange that Google Play files are faulty and Amazon's aren't. But, as I mentioned, if you go to Spotify, their tracks drop out too. Curious. Let's hope it's fixed soon - as you say Ross, Marvin's 'Autumn In New York' is very nice - I love the simple organ backing - it reminds me of JImmy McGriff. 'See See Rider' is great and 'Nice N Easy', although some of the other standards with cabaret type backing don't sound too good.

Just played this track and there were no issues with it playing.

My copy of the Brenda Holloway track is the same, drops out at 0:41
Anyone else come across duff tracks ?
Who converts these tracks for Google/Amazon/ITunes ?
Are they delivered as Wav's/FLAC/MP3's ??
Not looking good for Universal ........ AGAIN :-[[

It sounds like it's more of a problem with the provider and not necessarily Universal. I downloaded from Amazon and haven't had any issues with playback or sound.

  42. #42
Alanh says that the spotify tracks drop out too, not being a user i can't comment on that but perhaps someone who is would have a listen and see what happens ........

Loving 42/59 The instrumentals do very little for me. All my tracks sound fine with no drop-out.

You are right! I would think there must be a few Martha and The Vandellas tracks out there to sweeten the list and attract girl group fans and buyers. And, The Supremes! I believe it has been reported that their Anthology exhausted all of The Velvelettes' output.

This comment is not particular to Motown, but I am amazed at the price of $1.29 for individual downloads. When you think of it, this is getting very pricey.

Keeping up the customer pressure, I spoke to Google earlier today too. The rep I had a conversation with listened to the three tracks and agreed that their files are faulty She's passed on the issue to 'a specialist' who should be getting back to me within 24-48 hours. So, hopefully, one way or another those of us affected should hear something soon.

Lost confidence in Google Play now ....... Lady I spoke to hadn't really got a clue, think I'll ask for a refund and purchase elsewhere ...... IF copley let's us in on the secret
