First Barbra, now...Diana's Back To Brooklyn!

    http://gothamist.com/2014/12/11/dian...gs_theatr.php#

The gorgeous, old [[and at long last restored) Kings Theatre in Flatbush will reopen to the public in early 2015, and the woman helping bring life back into the venue for the first time in four decades is none other than Diana Ross.
The theater, which originally opened in 1929 but shut down around 40 years ago, was one of New York’s five “Wonder Theaters," and has recently been restored to its original grandeur. [[Here's what it looked like while it was sitting in abandonment). Once it has reopened, the venue will host performances—including music, dance, theatre, and comedy—and provide "a resource to foster and support creativity in the area, creating jobs and attracting thousands of visitors to the neighborhood." It will also become the largest theater in Brooklyn, with over 3,000 seats.
"An Evening With Diana Ross" is the inaugural concert, and will take place on February 3rd—tickets will go on sale Friday, December 12th at noon via Ticketmaster and KingsTheatre.com.
Here's a huge bonus: as part of its Grand Opening Celebration, the Kings Theatre will also host free events, including open houses and theatre tours.

My dad used to go to that theatre when he was a kid. I wish I could go cuz I love these killer old restored theatres, but I will have just left NYC and don't want to go back again a few weeks later. It's great that the area has turned around so well, last time I was there it was not so nice. Have fun!

I suspect we'll see King J, Queen Bey, Mayor De Blasio, Governor Cuomo and Sandra Lee, Andy Cohen, DVF, Anna Wintour and others - this refurbishing of the theatre is big news and it's hitting the other airwaves now!!!

Does anyone remember the Billboard Ad from about 1976, Palace Theatre time, placed by the Venue saying "NEW YORK LOVES DIANA!"?

Oh yes. Wasn't there also one during "Swept Away" for the Radio City shows? Talk about "One Singular Sensation"!!!

Nah, it should read first Mary Wilson, then whoever else except Stephanie Mills! Mary has performed 8 times in the last 12 years in Brooklyn from Seaside to the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Diane is just coming in late and following suit. She'll perform wherever they'll have her now.....

I honestly told you to stay out of the threads involving Diana Ross. I'm not sure how much clearer I need to be. You have no business here. Your opinions don't matter and no one wants to listen to your insane rants.

Regarding what you said, you really must be joking. If not, you are sicker and more delusional than we thought...

I seriously doubt any media promoted either Mary Wilson or Stephanie Mills to this degree. You need to get your head checked as you're obviously up to your old nonsensical tricks around here. Mary Wilson, bless her heart, is a non-entity to most people on the planet. I really don't understand why you think otherwise.

Here are the other links I found regarding the historic theatre and Diana's performance:

Diane has be taking out the same old stale show with no changes to speak of for the last 30 or more years. I can't find anyone that would get excited over something like that. She needs professionals to help her update her show badly. Sorry but it's the truth.

Your negativity demeans no one but yourself. Why not re-read Mr. Terrana's post of Aug.9 and respect the wishes of the gentleman who runs this site?

A few weeks ago, they had her at a private show where she was paid half a million dollars. You keep comparing Mary to Diana and it is unfair to Mary since their careers are so different and on different levels.

You cant find anyone that would get excited over Diana because you spend much of your time at your computer posting nasty comments on You Tube. Sit in one of her sold out audiences and you will find many people who get excited over her show. And each time I see her, there is at least one different song.
I saw Mary Wilson here locally last year, but had to sit through acts like Herman’s Hermits, because she was on an oldies bill.

I was thinking of seeing Mary in Englewood last month but the show was cancelled. Even though the price of the seats were cheap in comparison to Diana Ross and other singers who perform at the venue, the show was cancelled because barely ten percent of the tickets were sold. That is the actual reason which has been verified to me by a friend who works at the theatre.

Comparing Diana’s career to Mary’s career is unfair to Mary. They both have careers of which they can be proud but they are on different levels. Mary can do well touring little venues as a guest of Bill Wyan, or on bills with oldies acts like Herman’s Hermits. But she couldn’t fill a theatre in Englewood as a solo act and I doubt that she will ever be booked into Radio City or the Garden.
I think that when you come into the Diana threads to insult Diana and then compare her career to Mary’s , you are doing a disservice to Mary.

Mary is doing fine. She does not need you to insult Diana to build her up.

And Mary has said that herself to members of her audience who have booed when she mentioned Diana’s name. She stopped the show and reprimanded them.

    Merry Christmas

I had posted this earlier but deleted it because I thought it was too harsh but decided to reword it [[not that it will make a difference). I knew nothing about the fans at concerts but I know Mary, on more than one occasion has dismissed certain fans from these boards BY NAME stating that their opinions are not hers and that she, in fact, finds them disturbing. One individual in particular claims to be a friend of hers but is not. Like I've said before, all we can do is pray for him. Most of, if not all of us have taken the high road with Mary because we simply don't care. If she's out doing her thing, good for her! Knocking her down isn't going to make us feel any better. We don't need to. We continue to get fabulous reissues and attend beautiful concerts with Diana. We enjoyed the two high profile television appearances last month, hope for new material in 2015, and have exciting projects from her family to keep us on our toes! I realize positng this probably won't do a lick of good but I know through several Facebook groups I am involved with, these do conversations simply don't happen. I wish the same could be said for those here at SDF.

Too bad [[for me) that the show is on a Tuesday. If it was a Friday or Saturday, I would definitely catch a bus down to NYC.

Remember when this happened, it was very quiet here. I had my popcorn ready for "no one knows who Taylor Swift is" [[because everyone's flocking to see Smooth Wilson and The Manhattans) or "no one watches The Voice" [[no, they're on YouTube looking at 40 year old videos of Jean Terrell on the Mike Douglas Show).

Looks like New York STILL loves Diana as tickets at Kings are at 70% sold in 3 hours. Look for an added show if schedule permits. All her shows are selling well early and, many in markets she's really saturated well already. This is her 4th time at the same venue in Sarasota since '09. I'm doing the shows from Feb 6-14. I'm not doing them all as I don't wish to appear obsessed, lonely or whatever other adjective I'm forgetting. I can assist in getting great seats for Jacksonville if anyone is interested.
As far as Wee Willie Winkie goes, he is one sick sissy, honey. He is more to be pitied than censured. Lulu is right about Mary - she said in person about him specifically, that he creeps her out and is afraid of him. She knows disturbed individuals can turn on a dime, so she placates him in public to avoid scenes. I hope he finds peace someday, but maybe this IS peace to him..... who can say?

To be fair, Diana Ross fans on other boards have discussed why she hasn't changed her set list much in the past 6 years or so. So hopefully for this Brooklyn show she will mix up the set list a bit and perform a 90 minute show, minimum. I'm not attending the show as it's a work night and I fear she won't change up her show. Hopefully I'm wrong but I don't feel like spending the money and time to find out if my hunch will be correct or not. But Diana Ross doesn't need me to attend to ensure the show does well at the gate.

Most of us here feel the same way about the set list but it's been 6-7 Freakum years [[yes that stays auto corrected as it is part of a Beyoncé track) NOT 30! Lol!!!

The saddest thing about this forum is that many members attribute the negative behavior of other members to the stars themselves. Forum members unduly hate Mary because of her obnoxious "fans" who post here, and likewise for Diana. I prefer to enjoy the ladies without the politics of SDF. I love Barbara, Flo, Diana, Mary, Cindy, Jean, Lynda, Scherrie and Susaye without bias. Why argue, posture and provoke when our beloved Supremes are aging before our eyes? Should we not enjoy each and every one? Should we not let bygones be bygones?

MOST of us have been saying that for years and from what I've seen after doing some research on this forum going back to 2007, the same folks are still guilty of perpetuating this nonsense. Other than bringing a certain someone down to earth when he insists Mary is now somehow a bigger draw than Diana Ross [[which is frankly the most delusional thing any of us have ever heard), I rarely see any negative posts about anyone else but Diana by that certain individual. Mary's solo recording career didn't take off - that's a damn fact, not an "opinion". She's out there doing her thing and good for her - we love seeing her out there! Ditto for Scherrie and Susaye!

Back to your original point, what I find most disturbing is that yes, these little scuffles between fans get projected onto the ladies as somehow symbolic of what they are thinking/saying/feeling and frankly, that's utter NONSENSE despite what a certain someone claims to know with all of his "inside information".

If anyone's bitching and moaning about who was the original lead singer or what happened after Berry & Diana became "an item" or how Diana's solo career was pushed full speed ahead while The 70s Supremes, Mary's and Scherrie/Susaye's were given sh*tty material and promotion was somehow derailed for fear of competition, TRUST ME...it's the fans. Mary, Florence's family, Cindy, Jean, Lynda, Scherrie and Susaye are not sitting around talking smack, pointing fingers and telling tales about this malarkey. These are grown ass women and grandmothers and they have the class and dignity NOT to act like a bunch of whiny teenage girls which is exactly what certain people behave like on this forum and on YouTube with their childish and in some cases, disgustingly vile comments.

That's a lot; for the fans, I hope the show is a bit different; but the bulk of that show cannot change because of the high demand from the concert goers ~ Why Do Fools Fall in Love, Stop in the Name of Love, Baby Love, I Will Survive, Love Child, Touch Me in the Morning, Upside Down will never go out of the show.

I started reading this thread, had written a reply, and finally realized it was to someone who is banned. and this is an old thread. LOL. Lesson: Do NOT turn 60 and expect to function.

They are selling tix for nearly a grand each on Stubhub - in rear orchestra. I've never paid that much for rear.
