"Nightflight" Tue Sept 16, 9P-12M ET: Motown...or NOT Motown...THAT is the Question!

Howdy there, Motown Fans! So...that question I pose...is a song a MOTOWN song because of the sound? Or the writers and producers being MOTOWN writers and producers? Or because a Motown artist sings it? Go ahead and puzzle that out while I tell you about tonight's show. The show is about songs recorded originally by MOTOWNERS....BUT the versions you will hear are those recorded by NON-Motown artists. The Midnight Johnny archives have just been filled will tons of MOTOWN tracks recorded by some of your favorite artists who did not record for Motown. I think you'll be surprised at some of the cover versions I've found as I did research for this show. So do join me tonight for all this and more...on "Nightflight"...on WOMR 92.1 FM Provincetown and WFMR 91.3 FM Orleans and we are streaming live worldwide in digital stereo at www.womr.org Thanks! See you on the radio! John

Is it "just my imagination," but am I listening to "Motown" from a parallel universe? All the Motown covers you've played this evening underscore just how universal in appeal these classic songs are, no mater what gendre of music they get reinterpreted in. Thank you John, for the vast amount of research that was needed to pull this program together!

George Kerr later reworked "He Hit Me Where It Hurt Me" into the Shirelles' "Last Minute Miracle".

Only people actually living in Scotland get to vote in the referendum. I would have voted in favour of the Union continuing because without Scotland, England will normally end up with a right-wing government. Opinion polls indicate the result is too close to call.

John, you got me very interested in the singer Truly Smith from England. I see that she also covered the Berry Gordy song, "i Want to go BName: trulysmithpicturedisc22.jpg

Size: 28.9 KBack There Again," originally recorded by Chris Clark.

Great show tonight JP! Decided to make myself "known" rather than listen in the background. I so agree with your assessment of Michael McDonald's singer style. Just a little bit of him goes a long way. I can't bear listening to his CDs all the way through as his style, although appealing in its own way, after a few songs I've heard enough.

Who was the murderess that murdered "Bye Bye Baby"? She sounded worse to me than Claudette , Andy Williams' ex.

Who is Mrs Miller? "These Boots Are Made For Walking" would've been a great Flo Ballard track.

Is Mrs Miller for real? That vocal ......
