It's hard to believe that Prince's "Purple Rain" album is 30 years old as of today [[June 25). The album is regarded by many music critics and fans as the one of the best and most influential of the 1980s.

What are your memories of that album and that time?

That Summer of 1984, I was working brutal overtime in a terrible job with a boss who [[it was later determined) suffered from bipolar disorder. The music of this LP was cathartic, and helped make a wretched period of my life a little more tolerable.

I was living a pretty easy, carefree summer in 1984, and was making some decent money as a manager, and, of course, buying LOTS of music.

Buying and listening to "Purple Rain" was no big event, just another in a long line of records and tapes that I bought. But, it was Prince, after all! I was a bit wary because I am one of the few people who does not think very highly of the previous album "1999".

I was pleasantly to hear the album start off with a little rocker, and really loved "Take me With You", which, to me, sounded mature. The rest of the side was boring until I got to "Darling Nikki", which turns out to be one of the best things on the album after "Take me With You" and "When Doves Cry".

To this day, though, I skip several songs because I find them boring.

I liked the next album "Around The World In A Day" much more.

That long ago? I still watch it on DVD to this day. The performance footage is what made this movie ,the L.P. stands on it's own to this day.
