I just heard about the news early this morning. As soon as I did, I had to do a long run with everyone on Fort Stewart in honor of the Army's 239th birthday. And while I was stretching, I started thinking to myself that Jimmy and Jeanie were both big supporters of my being in the military. So I thought that I would run hard and finish strong for them, and I did. I didn't fall out of the formation and I kept pushing myself even though my legs were hurting. I was doing it for them.

Sorry to hear this Jeanie [[Soul Sister). But, Jimmy had a long, and good life. My condolences to you and his family. His singing brought a lot of joy to a lot of people. I bought my first record of his way back in 1955. So, I've been a fan of his, and his music has been in my life for just about 60 years! As long as people keep listening to his music, he won't be forgotten.

You kind of nailed it there, Robb. Jimmy bridged two generations of music and did it successfully. Truly one of a kind that can not be replaced. Rest well Jimmy. You did good.

Jeanie...I still have the pictures we took at Jimmy's Detroit concerts at the DIA Auditorium and the Wright Museum, those were good times. He had so much talent and he was such a classy gentleman. His music will never be forgotten.

My condolences to you and to Jimmy's family.

    Hi to all!

So sorry to read this... Dear Soul Sister receive my true condolence. I remember that I discovered Jimmy Scott grace to you [[this was my high ignorance when I first started posting here, I only knows until now about "classic soul" and Philly & Chicago "uptown soul").

A great embrace to you and all the family and friends of Jimmy. Rest in peace.

He was our Cleveland legend. We were so proud of him.
Jeanie, your care and devotion allowed us to have him all these years.
His body changed over the years, but his voice and soul never did.
A heartfelt thank you and may God Bless you.
    RIP Great One

    Dear Soul Sister,

I've had the honor of meeting you and Mr. Scott only once, in 2003 after a performance in St. Louis, but I will never forget how welcoming and gracious both of you were, and that you are not only his Lady but a lady in every sense. May that warmth be returned to you at this difficult time.

    With sincere condolences,
    Cathy D.

Thank you everyone for the thoughtful messages.
I am dealing with a lot right now and will post information about services towards end of week once the funeral home and the church where we got married can coordinate on the date.

    Dear Sis,
Words can't describe the heartbreak we all feel. Sir Jimmy was a shining example of how to succeed against all odds. And he did so with love, even to those who did him the greatest injustice. Know that he will live on in our hearts forever.
    Love you much,

    ********************************SEE YOU IN HEAVEN*******************************

    Life is a beautiful sunrise
A day or a hundred years
But why is there a sunset
    For those we hold dear

I call and you always answer
Love last to the final chapter
    Now you're gone

    I can't imagine
    Life without your laughter
    Please one more dawn

    I hear eleven angels singing
    Rejoice it's a new beginning
    Dry your tears

    My life is shattered
    I've lost all that matters
    Please heart be still

    I'd die to save you
Trade the breath GOD gave me
    But thats impossible

So I'll see you in Heaven
Yes, I know the directions to your arms

When I get there I will find you
Shine your light and guide me through
Through the storms of life I'll come
    Back to the only one
    I have always loved

Millions will be there but I'll find you
Shine your light and guide me through
    From darkness to light
    No more earthly strife
    Heaven and eternal life

So I'll see you In Heaven
Yes,I know the directions to your arms

So I'll see you in Heaven
Yes, I know the directions to your arms.

    THANK YOU MR JIMMY SCOTT.
I pray that GOD will welcome you with open arms

Jeanie... May GOD continue to bless and keep you in his loving care!

That is so beautiful, Smooth. It covers my feelings so well.
I just finished speaking to him when I read this as tears flowed down my cheeks. How I miss my sweet angel, he is free now, free of all life's pain and reunited with the mother he lost at age 13.
Thank you for that lovely sentiment, Smooth. I will save it.

Sorry Jeanie for being so late in responding but I just read the news about Jimmy's passing. One of my students and I met with you and Jimmy in your hotel room in Toronto and it was a wonderful long chat - I still have the picture of Soniel and Jimmy on my office wall. It is sad that he is gone but he will never be forgotten and just imagine all the people he made smile and happy...what a BLESSING!

I wish you all the best Jeanie.

Thank you, Satipe. I 'll never forget your visit to our hotel with your student. You are doing a wonderful job educating young people to the history of music and the artists.

Yes, Jimmy has touched a lot of people's hearts and souls, that will stay with them forever because that's who he was. He was born with a gift and a talent but he was blessed to be able to bring joy to everyone he's met.

There are many, many photos online of Jimmy Scott's remarkable smile.

I especially like this photo because Jimmy looks so serene.

And I would venture to say it also shows why.

I still remember the first time I heard his record, actually it was CD.
I was at Tower Records in NY, then I heard some female jazz vocal.
At that time I thought I had heard most of well-known female Jazz vocalists, but I could not recognize that voice, so I asked their employee, and it was Jimmy.
I actually had heard his name before, I read somewhere that Nancy Wilson got lots of influence from him. So I purchased that CD called "All the Way", and it was in 1992.
    Wow, 22 years ago already!
Since then I have listened so many his recordings and attended some of his shows. He was special.
Despite of the fact that he had to struggle so much in his mid career, it seems that his last 22 years was nothing but blessing. He was adored by his fans from all over the world.
So even this is a sad goodbye, but I am happy to know he had a long life and enjoyed the last 22 years unlike so many other black musicians ended their lives so tragically.

Goodbye Jimmy, and thanks for so many beautiful music!

    Thanks for sharing that, Blue.

Yesterday was particularly a hard day as it was Jimmy's 89th Birthday.

The service was lovely, I was lucky not only to have the family taking good care of me but I also had Minister Farrakhan's two sons watching closely over me all the days I was there. Louis, Jr. and Joshua were my rocks the whole week in Cleveland, they and their Dad have been angels on my shoulder.

While I was their the Mayor's office and Council woman read the proclamation at Jimmy's funeral for the street naming and the ceremonies took place the next morning. Jimmy's favorite street he lived on growing up where he was the happiest before him Mom was killed after being hit by a car, East 101st Street [[between Cedar & Quebec) was named after him "JIMMY SCOTT WAY", it too was a lovely ceremony.

Friday I had a V.I.P. Tour scheduled for me at the Rock Hall [[they will be doing some sort of exhibit on Jimmy in the future), I took with me one of my best girlfriends Tiny and my good friend from the T.V. Show "GLEE" singer Storm Gardner, Jimmy's sister and niece.
Cleveland was beautiful, we did more joyful things while there and felt Jimmy's presence with us.

There will be more wonderful things in store for Jimmy, it won't be over for my husband now that he's gone to glory.
    * I am proud to announce Jimmy will be getting a"Lifetime Achievement Award" from the 2015 Grammy's.
Perhaps an exhibit in the Grammy Museum and a "Celebration of Life" Memorial in L.A. as well.

    * We are working on a "STAR" on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
    * In the future a major motion picture about Jimmy's incredible life.

    * There will be a "Tribute to Jimmy Scott" at the world famous Apollo Theater on October 24th with Quincy Jones and Jazz Greats.
    * The next day on October 25th there will be a "Celebration of Life" Memorial with Jimmy's peers and all the greatest singers taking place in New York City at Harlem's famous Abyssinian Church.

Thank you for all the kind messages everyone.
