I think this is a rather good move to have Motown operate independently again. I wish Ethiopia Habtemariam the best of luck in her new challenging role.

That's interesting news. Universal is repulsive. They bought out EMI and I one of my friends in Los Angeles lost her job. She worked at the Capital Records building. Oh the times we had when I came out west to visit!

Yeah, sure, why not move back to a city that just went bankrupt and has so many business opportunities... lol

You might want to take a visit and see downtown Detroit today, i.e. the businesses that have decided to locate there.......

Does this mean that Harry Weinger and his staff will move to L. A., or are they employees of Universal?

I believe Harry works for Universal. Maybe he will see this and clarify things for us.

Harry doesn't need to . Andy has already responded on the original thread about the move. See posts # 6 & # 24 here:

The Motown Catalog is still under UME, so the move of the currently active recording label to L.A. has no bearing on the release of "oldies".

THANK you! I was about to tell that Cat off for his flippant remark about Detroit. Should we just let the grand city just die? NO!

One does not just rebound from bankruptcy overnight, just saying. Some companies have decided to move there, OK. Detroit is no longer the musical powerhouse city it once was. Major showbiz and major labels are located where all of showbiz is - New York and LA with a couple of them biggies all over the country. I am hoping for a true revival of the Detroit music scene, bu that does not happen with the snap of a finger.
