Last Christmas our local baker was selling Viennese mince pies, and they were delicious. When I tried to buy some this year, the shop assistant told me that she had lost count of the number of people she had to tell that they weren't doing them this year owing to lack of demand.

Yes!! I can't take someone seriously, and do formal business with them, if they're chewing gum [[you can call me old-fashioned, if you like...)

And, on the subject, I once had the misfortune to have lunch sitting opposite a representative from a well-known UK furnishing fabric house. When she wasn't stabbing the air with cutlery during loud, pompous and animated conversation, it was like watching someone hurling sausages into a concrete mixer....
