FUNK from 1973 Wee Willie and the Winners youtube stuff

For those who've never heard him, a bit like a James Brown clone.
    Hope you enjoy these 3!

Interesting stuff tamla .. I'd heard of the group and have "Get Some" on a compilation C.D. but I think the other two were new to me.

"Get Some" to me sounds very like what KOOL & THE GANG were doing at the time [["Funky Stuff" etc).

"Wipe Your Feet" sounds like a prototype of what BRASS CONSTRUCTION were producing a few years later, with a bit of "Soul Makossa" thrown in [[though it does have 1976 on the label so possibly it was recorded after 1973). Actually the label of "Wipe Your Feet" is VERY confusing as it seems to have the same catalogue number as "Get Some" [[which could make it the first double "B" sided record ) and has the time as 1:59 whereas the you-tube clip lasts for more like 3:20.

"I Don't Know" does sound very "JAMES BROWN".

Interesting to see that all three tracks have MECO MONADO credited as arranger, Mr Monado of course went on to have one of the biggest hits of the "Disco" era with his version of the "Star Wars" theme.

I bought the "I don't know" 7" in 73, not sure about the 2 others being 73. It was on the British People label. I think I had one by Don Downing "lonely days, lonely nights" on the same label, also 73. I'd never heard of Wee Willie before that, I just heard it playing in Oxford's Harlequin records shop and got it before it went! The British "Don't know" was a PT1&2 a and b side. I used to ask people who they thought it was, all of them said JB which I suppose was obvious as nobody had ever heard of Wee Willie.

Somewhere in the deep recesses of my memory I think I can recall an ad in "Blues & Soul" for that WEE WILLIE & THE WINNERS 7" Tamla. "Lonely Days, Lonely Nights" was indeed on the People label in the U.K. [[I still have my copy, plus "Dream World" also by DON DOWNING).

This is "Lonely Days, Lonely Nights" on you-tube played off a copy of the People 45.

Amazing to think it made #32 on the U.K. charts as I can't recall hearing it in eons.

This is "Dream World" which I recall got a lot of airplay but never charted!!

I think "In The Pocket" by THE BROTHERS [[New York session musicians who also did "Are You Ready For This") was also on U.K. People.

This is "In The Pocket" ..

Thanks Roger. I'd forgotten Dream world, I actually bought that too!
Thanks for the Brothers info, I'd never heard it before. Cant remember the B&S ad though but that's not surprising really, 40 , FORTY years ago!

I don't think I'd ever heard that KOKOMO track before Tamla ..

Seems that THE WINNERS on Ariola were the same group as WEE WILLIE & THE WINNERS. I remember this one coming out around 1978.

I was loading up a few more for you and I lost it all when I hit a wrong key! I'll find em again for you later. Took ages too because I had to listen to them all, they're that good!

That is like Brass Construction and Heatwave's Groove line
