One day in the hole belonging to the Mole family, Papa Mole wanted a breath of fresh air so he opened the door and popped his head out. "Hmm...," he said. "Something smells like sweet maple syrup."

Mama Mole thought that was odd, so she stuck her head through the door and took a whiff. "No, dear," she told him. "That is most definitely clean and sweet honey."

Baby Mole, being a lover of sweet things was suddenly interested, so he tried to stick his head out of the door to smell it himself. To his dismay, he found that he could not squeeze between his parents to determine what it was. First, his head bumped against his father's butt and then his mother's. He pushed and pushed to no avail before finally giving up and he began to cry.

Mama Mole was concerned and came down to see what was wrong. "It's not fair!", he wailed. "What's not fair, darling?", she asked.

"Daddy smells maple syrup, while you smell honey. And all I get to smell," he continued. "Is Mole asses!"

Actually, that was found on the cutting room floor of one William Shakespeare. His editor thought that it upset the flow of 'MacBeth' and insisted that he remove it. He also suggested that he rewrite the scene wherein Lady MacBeth said 'out damned spot' just as she spanked a dog with a rolled up newspaper for pooping on the floor. By most accounts, both changes were beneficial to the play.

Confidentially, I am also extraordinarily attracted to scintillating, rhythmic examples of suprasegmentals and syllabification.

Linguistically speaking, your skills are irrepressible today... I find it incomprehensible that anyone on this board is capable of specifically prognosticating how mellifluously you are able to particularize your responses to the subject at hand.

I hope I usually use the best word possible. As the main purpose in language is to communicate [except for politicians whose main purpose is to obfuscate], the shorter, more common word is usually the more appropriate. Usually, I use a longer, more obscure word when I'm being light hearted, as when I describe the Andantes as being "ubiquitous" or "omnipresent".

Flowery and over-the-top language [[out of context) is more likely than not verbal masturbation. In typical communication, get to the point and KISS. You'd be surprised to read some of the professional communication that I've read in company e-mails. I made a habit of reading my messages at least three times before sending them [[especially if I was angry when composing them).

It was not unusual for me to rewrite them 3-5 times before I pared them down to the actual message sans the attitude. Typically, the end note was 50-75% as long as it was originally.

We may take a long time dealing with our thoughts, but formal business communications are the opposite, and should always be objective and concise. While they may include pleasantries, they should be completely free of emotion.

Their composition does become much easier with practice and/or age. Any tendency towards an 'attitude' declines with age. The goal is to nail it first time, maybe with a slight amendment when re-reading it once, and then send it.

Taking any longer indicates lack of focus on the principal reason for the communication. Time is money.

I blame Cilla Black for a lorra, lorra things. Recording "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" is one of them. Strange that it got as high as #2 in our charts considering the Righteous Brothers reached #1.

I'm sure that Cilla is perfectly lovely in private, but I don't think I'm being too unrealistic in suggesting that - if there were to be a national "I just can't stand that woman" public poll, she would score very highly.

Half a century on, it would appear that Dionne Warwick would eagerly embrace the opportunity to register her feelings about 'Our Cilla'.....

I dunno. Sand is awfully heavy. Not sure you can afford the shipping and handling. But if you believe in your product that much, go ahead and send it. I'm glad to know someone as generous as you, brother. Thanks!
