i’m always surprised that eddie kendrick’s third self-titled album isn’t more universally cared for. it includes one of my favorite motown songs of all time, the frank wilson wriiten & produced...
i’m surprised to hear that smokey did not like “come round here.” he certainly didn’t have any problem with the quick, wordy “going to a go-go” and i read here that he liked the even faster “whole...
the timing for “come ‘round here) i’m the one you need” as a follow up to “reach out” makes sense. “reach out” was recorded on july 27, 1966, “i’m the one you need” september 29, and “standing in the...
wow! thanks! this makes a whole lot of sense to me. i hope it’s true, but even if it turns out to be a more muddled story, i think this is the one i’ll believe!
i know 1966 was an extraordinarily busy year for holland/dozier/holland. they wrote a varietyof hits: reach out & standing in the shadows for the tops, my world is empty and you can’t hurry love for...
for pure innuendo ... "motoring" martha & the vandellas!
temptations sing smokey. why? cuz it is a cohesive album and every song is great!
someone who has listened to the isolated vocal tracks of "easy" told me that it is valerie simpson. motown has not wanted to diminish terrell's legacy and hurt her family by officially saying that...
marvin's t.a.m.i. show gig is probably his best early live performance. everybody talks about james brown and the stones, but they always seem to try too hard. gaye was cool as a cucumber and didn't...
for the most part hdh were the only producers who knew how to use ross's unique voice and the only group of writers who could consistently give them hit material. i am not convinced the supremes...
wow, i was impressed! what a thoughtful and stately woman. i have in the past made a remark or two about martha's current singing voice. i regret those remarks. ms. reeves is an american treasure!
everybody always talks about the female singers who could have had careers as big as diana ross. i can only think of two: brenda holloway & tammi terrell. gordy never seemed to push holloway, and...
whoa! kim does a great job on "your wonderful sweet, sweet love". seems as if miss weston was never treated as well as her many talents warranted. who would ever think being married to a producer...
elvis costello is not challenging his fans ... we have always expected him to push us in new and different directions. the same goes for bob dylan. diana ross is a retro act living on past laurels....
... well, as much i as i agree that a reunion will never happen, i do see a simple solution for the third supreme ... jean terrell!
the problem for the post jean terrell supremes is, for me, by this third incarnation the supremes no longer had anything in common with the original brand. this high pitched model just doesn't work...
what year is this from? this sounds more like hdh did in their heyday at motown, except there is no driving funk bros big beat, the song is weak, and that poor jones girl on lead would never have...
oh, i didn't want her to say "baby love" but rather "remove this doubt" or "going down for the third time. elvis costello recorded "remove this doubt" ... now, he is a person who knows music! he can...
swift actually says she likes the song "i'm gonna make you love me" by the temps & the supremes. she, quite obviously, doesn't have a very broad knowledge of either group's broad catalog!
i'm on the side that the supremes version is one of the last great hdh songs. this, and "i'm in a different world", the last hdh song for the tops seemed to follow an increasing progression of...

roger, i know that hdh wrote under different names. but of the examples posted here, most are written with someone else or not written by hdh at all. just because someone was on inviticus didn't mean...
thanks all! you have given me an education. but many of these links are to hdh productions and not to songs written and produced by them ... but the inviticus label does have a consistent sound....
i do thank all of you for your suggestions for post motown work by hdh. i liked some of them ... but not a single song had the depth of sound, a melody, or lyrics that were even close to what hdh...
