Automatically Sunshine! Smokey doin' 65 in the seventies.
Actually, it does have that 61-63 feel as far as Miracles slow singles go. In the late 70s I used to spin oldies at a local bar in Detroit, I always opened with this one. To me, it was really like...
Kim Weston
Brenda Holloway
Gladys Knight
Blinky
Wanda Rogers
No particular order, I find it hard to compare them, as they all were top shelf in their own right
I never met Gary but I did witness an album session by his mom Beverly, at United Sounds in Detroit back in 73, I think.
Like a good man should was nice too, kinda like Motown does the 50's.
Yes, yes, yes!
Eddie was the best! He sang background better the a lot of his contemporaries could lead at first tenor. Plus, he transitions from his natural to falsetto and back were seamless! He raised the bar...
Wanda! Her voice, phrasing, and delivery are and always will be unique and exclusive to her. I've loved her voice since childhood... .now I'm 60. What does that say for longevity?!!!
My Track Listing
1. The further you look.....
2. What live has joined together
3. One last look
4. Just another lonely night
5. Ain't no sunshine since you

I'd have to say "Sing Smokey". It's not because of the songs but more so how they were sung. No overdubbing to fill out their vocals. Their background vocals took on a different texture based on who...
Could this song possibly been considered for The Vandellas " Dance Party " album? Kinda reminds me of "Motoring"!
Yeah that's nice. Especially seeing that the Brewster Projects and Hitsville are in New York!. Way to go Ms Diana .
I would say the Classic 5 era. That line-up was what I call their definitive line-up. No offense to any other members or eras, but the Classic 5 era members etched into history forever the initial...
Omg! Those strings were killing it! Also, that had to be Benny on drums! His pickups were lightning fast. If ever there was a Motown Sound record this was and still is IT!!
Stevie
Martha Reeves
Kim Weston
CP Spencer
David Ruffin
Paul Williams
Bobby Rogers
Ivy Jo Hunter
Dave Hamilton
Joe Hunter
That's it! Pretty much the only way they could do it then. Three tracks didn't allow much flexibility but hearing that stuff now in amazing. The stuff was amazingly clear and clean for three tracks
My reason for asking is, some passages his voice is very prominent whereas on others he seem perfectly in unison with the others. For example, on You Beat Me To The Punch, certain passages he sounds...
Was Melvin miked separately from everyone else?
The sweetest thing this side of heaven! The Tempts wouldve lit that one up!
Truly yours
Where is that girl
I cross my heart
Like a good man should
I'll always love you
Those strings were awesome! Did Paul Riser do those?
On the instrumental track you'll hear that sax shadowing the Tempts "talkin' bout my girl" on the vamp.
I think Eddie Holland sung on 'Check Yourself" I'm not positive but, it sure sounds like him. Especially the part where they sing "good times'.
