I think the song did get a few plays on UK radio, I've been quite familiar with the song since the early '70s and I could have only heard it on the radio. I remember that a couple of years earlier...
There is also this one .....

Actually "Passing Strangers" was from 1957, and was a reasonable hit back then [[#82 BB Hot-100, #22 UK), somehow it got caught up in the 1969 UK reissue boom and got as high as #20. Great record!!

In Picture #12 third from the right looks suspiciously like Engelbert Humperdinck so my guess is that it was taken, possibly during rehearsals, at the 1968 Royal Variety Show in London. Petula Clark...
H-D-H did do a reasonable attempt at replicating the Phil Spector sound at the end of '63 with The Darnells "Too Hurt To Cry". In reality "The Darnells" were The Marvelettes with a change of name...
"My Girl" must be a good contender for runner-up …
DFTMC lists the versions by Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Jonah Jones, The San Remo Golden Strings, Earl Van Dyke and five versions by The...
Ah … but if the scenery is good a long and slow train ride is a great way to spend a few hours :)
"In & Out Of Love" peaked at #13 in The UK, slightly higher than "Love Is Here & Now You're Gone"...
I bought the 12" of "Let's Start The Dance" when it gained a UK release back in '78 Marv2. It was one of the first [[if not THE first) 12" releases to come out on the Mercury label in the UK.

Great stuff Marv2 ….
And there was also the enhanced/remixed version from 1981 … :) …

All very true Jobeterob, but another thing to consider is that in The '60s Billboard's R&B chart only consisted of 50 or 60 records. This was expanded to 100 in 1973 so the combination of less...
Along with The Supremes "You Can't Hurry Love", I've always thought it strange that Motown omitted the two biggest UK hits from that time period on that compilation … maybe they didn't want to damage...
"With You I'm Born Again" did spend 29 weeks on Billboard's "Pop" Hot-100 Chart, peaking at #4, so it does sound a likely choice Marv2 …. However it didn't find much favour with the R&B crowd and...
That did spend 27 weeks on Billboard's R&B chart jack020, but it wasn't released until 1992. :)
I know the answer, but I cheated and looked in the book so I'm not telling.
Let's just say that I wouldn't have thought of either of those two and Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing", which is on the...
Is the phrase "when you get right down to it" still in regular use anywhere in 2019?
The Ronnie Dyson version of the song was a number 34 UK hit back in 1971/2 and so received a fair amount of...
I've always thought that "Does Your Mama Know About Me" by BOBBY TAYLOR & THE VANCOUVERS sounds very "Philly". I can just imagine it having being done by THE INTRUDERS. 😊

So, no mention of "Rick, Robin & Him" in that article so it looks like my theory is wrong, hmmmm. Still not convinced either way. :)
For years I've assumed that Rick, Robin & Him were basically the same people who recorded on Sidra as Ronnie & Robyn .. "Just As Long As You Love Me" etc. ... and this post looks to suggest that...
Slightly off-topic perhaps but in Australia the word "Manchester" is used to describe homeware such as towels, bedding, linen etc. Department Stores will have a "Manchester" department and the term...
The intro is a direct lift from "Itching", so it took me about two seconds to spot the similarity ;)
Another 2018 release that has a distinct Motown influence [[albeit from a slightly later era) is...
You'd have to be a total and utter Motown completist to already own physical copies of all 66 tracks on this collection.
The copy I ordered turned up about 10 days back and about 5 of the...
My copy arrived a few days back and I've managed to play the entire collection three times so far and it has sounded better each time. Time to play it again methinks. :)
Thelma's recollections of...
The original 1969 Gordy LP Artwork showed Frank Wilson as the producer, so presumably he put together the LP and included some material from other producers.
There are scans etc. at 45Worlds.

Smokey Robinson & The Miracles "The Love I Saw In You Was Just A Mirage" was used in American Gigolo .... fitted in with the plot as well :)
