The New Birth....the most underrated of all soul bands.
IMO one of the greates soul albums, ever.
Here’s what I said in my review in my Spinning Around Volume 2 Book
I seem to recall Blues & Souls John Abbey calling the cover to There’s No Place...
Thank you Heikki, much appreciated.. Best John
I posted on the forum nearly two years ago when my book, Spinning Around: A History of the Soul LP Volume 1 A-K, was published in England [[I can't now find that posting, it seems to have...
Sad. Saw The Impressions about three years ago in London. A great show. As Reggie was quite a bit younger than Fred and Sam it seems more of a shock.
She'll Throw Stones At You is also to be found on a very good CD from 1995 entitled "Buddah Deep Soul: Yes My Goodness Yes". Arthur was a brilliant artist. Did you also know there is a book written...
Its not been a great start to year as regards deaths and Otis is the one I will miss the most. Really great soul singer.
Agree about quality of music, not about quality of sleevenotes. Bill Dahl has completely missed the Alley and Soul Sneekers LP from 1979 on which Hall provides lead vocals on many tracks.
Everything Marginal ever put out was a bootleg. No ifs or buts. Im surprised so many people happily talk on here about buying them when there are probably musicians on the forum who played on these...
Very surprised to see that no-one - unless I have missed it - has posted about this superb new book by Stuart Cosgrove that has just come out in the UK. It could hardly be more pertinent to this...
For anyone who may not know : He also put out a weird album in 1972 under his a/k/a name, Dee Ervin, "Dee Ervin Sings".
It wasn’t weird because it was musically poor or odd, just that it only...
It clearly doesn't and the Forum obviously works just fine for many people.
Wasn't Carly Simon from New York ? If so, even less reason to discuss her based on what you say above. Anyway, as I said the Forum can -and clearly does - discuss who it likes - I just dip in time...
One of the finest and most underrated of all soul artists. He'd not been well for a long time so no real shock, I suppose, but still sad.
Indeed, Ralph, it's your site and you can run it how the hell you want. I just really made my post - as customer feedback, if you like - because I go onto the site a fraction of the time I used to as...
Ok, ok I know I am going out on a limb here in that this woman is not classified as a "Soul Singer".
Hardly going out on a limb seeing as how a very large portion of posts on this website have...
Simply go on You tube and listen to lots of tracks from the Secret Stash LP that are up there. e.g McKinley Mitchell "The town I live in "; Otis Clay "Nothing to look forward to"; Sharpees "Do the 45...
I have it and am very pleased. It is nicely packaged with a booklet including some great photos and there are also 12 unreleased tracks. The music is tough, early Chicago soul so don't get it if you...
So have I. Completely agree. I can't wait for the day when some compiler finally has the imagination to put "Time stopped" on a CD rather than the flip, "Have nore time" for the 768th time....
It is indeed good to see this CD and well done to Kent for bringing it out. I like the vast majority of tracks on here - particularly Bobby Taylor, Shorty Long , Smokey, Edwin Starr and Marv Johnson...
Thank you, Interestting article despite the writer's thinking "Hi" was "High". I thought my post would be as ignored as the average Way Out single.
I think I've just heard it. The Numero group's latest offering, "The Way Out label" . Absolutely marvellous and totally recommended for anyone who loves late sixties / early seventies soul.
This...
He made more of my favourite records than anyone else.
R.I.P.
I guess you do. But shouldn't site be then called "Musical discussions" rather than "Soulful Detroit" ? I believe he was born in Detroit but as far as i know, and admittedly about Kasem that is very...
I' m genuinely baffled : why would someone post this on a "Souful Detroit " website ? Just one of many posts that seem absurdly off topic. I know I can just ignore them - and 99% of the time I do -...
