Back in the day, I would try to create the single edits of Motown songs using the mechanical pause control on my cassette deck. It took some doing at times but I really enjoyed creating a usable edit...
I was very disappointed with the audio quality of Marvin's vocals on I've Come To Love You So Much, they sound slightly muffled and at a low volume level. Perhaps the master tape is damaged? However,...
I'm with you there too. I feel Diana brings a sweet contrast to Marvin's vocals that works so well.
From a UK perspective, the comment about lots of people having a copy is spot on. Those I know who had a copy really loved the album, as I do to this day. Putting aside all the "noise" about songs...
Danman869, it is the quad mix, so much better!
I also like the mix of Stop, Look, Listen on Diana's To Love Again album as there are additional vocals when compared to the version on the Diana &...
For me this is one of the best songs on Diana & Marvin. However, I have often thought that the wrong version of the song ended up on the album...
The original album version has Marvin singing...
I wonder if anyone has ever heard "He Holds His Own" in a gentlemans' toilet? :o
I remember the 20 Golden Greats cover - very clever three sets of lips with microphones.
Sotosound - I thought this was the US version of the Four Tops Greatest Hits vol 1 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Four_Tops_Greatest_Hits whereas we had the outdoors picture in the UK.
In the UK we had, I believe, unique Diana Ross Greatest Hits [[volume 1) and Four Tops Greatest Hits [[volume 1) albums. There might be other artist greatest hits albums too.
My questions are ......
I'm pleased that Diana didn't record Don't Leave Me This Way. The arrangement is too close to LH and would have been seen as trying to replicate a masterpiece. LH needed to be left as a one off given...
Interestingly, on the expanded album's alternate version of LH, those moans at at the end of the song. I wonder where they were originally, moans of what's to come or moans of a joyous end!
In the UK, I can remember the "shock" of hearing Love Hangover for the first time, it was like Diana had reinvented herself after all of the ballads that were released as singles. I was hooked...
Oh yes, word form or whatever, just a bit of fun for us!
Just for some fun in this depressing world in which we live!
Which Motown songs feature numbers in their title? I'll start with:
Two Can Have A Party - Marvin and Tammi
Once, Twice, Three...
I like the tidied up strings [[mixed out at times) and overall crisper feel of the 45 edit. It was close to how some of the best mid-60s Motown songs were mixed.
John, Stoned Love brings back loads of memories for me dancing at Redbridge Tech discos and other events. It was such a floor filler. Great times!
I've always liked the 45 edit of Stoned Love as, for a single, it's much snappier than the album version [[which I also like). However, I have wondered why the decision was taken to insert an earlier...
My initial thoughts:
Dark Side Of The World
Sparrow
The World Is Rated X
So Long
Piece Of Clay
Sweet Thing [[what a great duet with Tammi this would have made)
This Poor Heat Of Mine [[with...
Does anyone know what the whistle heard in Bad Weather signifies please?
Lost In A Pool Of Red - Four Tops. A very dark sounding intro, in line with the lyrics of the song. Would have been a good choice for the film Trainspotting.
How about we share our favourite string intros, perhaps giving the reasons why. Here's a couple from me.
You're All I Need To Get By - Marvin and Tammi. This string intro sets the scene to start a...
You Lost The Sweetest Boy - Mary Wells:

Inner City Blues - Marvin Gaye:

I totally agree Ollie9. Chain Reaction is an excellent reminder of the golden Motown years. The accompanying video is also full of fun but with important "reflection" on Diana's different looks over...
How about these laid back drum roll intros which set a very different feeling to the songs?
Still Water [[Love) - Four Tops
California Soul - Marvin & Tammi
